Classic Plastic Status, and an Appeal

Post by PaulBradley »

Some of you will have noticed that this month's SAMI doesn't contain my Classic Plastic column. This is because I'm going bi-monthly for the time being. I apologize for the lack of notice - there was supposed to be a notice in this issue somewhere.

Two main reasons - lots of new personal projects, plus a lack of contributions means I can't fill a monthly column at the moment. I I hope to get it back to monthly in the future, but that depends on other people contributing.

So, I'd like to ask the members of this forum, and especially members of the Classic British Kits SIG, for their help - can you write an article for me for CP, please? You all know what appears in the column, so I'm sure I don't need to spell out the requirements. Just one rule does need to be emphasized - if at all possible, I'd like to run material that hasn't featured online, either on this forum or elsewhere, although I will bend the rules for some builds. If you can all write just one article, I'll have enough material to fill the column for some years to come, alongside my own builds and those contributed by other modellers. Please think about what you can do and drop me a line, either by pm or at my e-mail - classicplasticsami (at) gmail.com

Thanks in advance! 8-)
Paul

I still "owe" you that Ventura article, but it is just stuck behind other things. Maybe after I get the CBK display work done and mailed .... sorry.

Cheers, Fred! Basically, 1000-1500 words, build process photos very much appreciated and it has to be a kit that's over 25 years old. Other than that, have at it! I'd love to see what you can do. 8-)

Sadly (given the huge diversity of classic plastic subjects), I think the publishers of Scale Aviation Modeller International prefer wingy things. I have a memory that Migrant once got away with a Snark, but that was a missile as big as a good size aeroplane... and it did indeed have wings. There's really not much out there that would publish build-ups of birds, galleons, traction engines, Universal Monsters, dinosaurs, insects, vending machines or local pubs, sadly. Airfix Model World is pretty flexible on subject matter, but it has to be available now, in a new box...

We talked a long time ago about publishing a "CBK Annual" on LuLu that harked back to the Airfix Magazine Annuals of our youth, but it turned out to be a full time job to edit it!

bestest,
M.

Thats a lot of words. When I wrote for car magazines I was confined to 100 to 600 words. 100 for a one day event, up to 600 for a two-day or special. I learnt to use 1 word instead of 5.
I must see if any of the aeroplanes I'll be building next fit into the time scale.

Sorry - as Matt says, aircraft only. But thanks for thinking of me!

That's about 1-2 pages depending on the # of photos. I tend to edit a bit as well. If it comes up shorter, that's OK too.

I also promised an article of the old Airfix Stork which is staring at me of of a corner of my shelf of shame. I had a bit of an article started so let me see if I can get cracking and "git 'er done."

P.S. Maybe my college freshman daughter could finish the article for me. :-D

CP is one of my favourite articles in the mag Paul. As CBK leader I really ought to try to build something for you. Let me have a think, though there might be a delay regarding anything new due to the SMW display. In the meantime, if it's of use to you, I could try and write an article re my recent Airfix F-111E build, on which I dropped the flaps and slats, although it did feature on here. Be warned, I've never written a build feature in my life so some editing will probably be order of the day :ha:

I'm no writer myself and rarely take many in work images, but as I said to Paul earlier this week CP is one of my biggest reasons to continue with SAMI. I know there are many talented folk on here who could help keep the flame alive.
