Airfix Kits by Shire Library, author Trevor Pask

Post by CementNotGlue »

This dainty publication of just 56 pages will fit into your pocket; like the huge rang of Shire Library books do.

It's aimed at the novice and features many colour plates, the majority of which have come from the publicity department of Airfix, so that means many of the previous catalogue pictures reproduced to varying degrees of size reduction.

The history of Airfix is described against a changing consumer market and rival kit manufacturers. The mention of Frog kits costing that bit more, I can vouch for.

Thankfully it contains an index. Comprehensive it is not. The holy grail of kits, notably the SAM guideline missile gets a mention, Pg 37 and even a picture of the box on the penultimate page, but is missing from the index.
