Book Reviews

Post by beany »

May I ask what the rhyme or reason is behind the choice of book reviews in this section? Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed the ones I've read already on here, but therein lies the problem. I find it very frustrating to read a review, get excited about the book to only then find it is Sold Out on the publishers site and that none are listed on Amazon, not even second hand. If that is the case would the reviewer please clearly state this at the beginning of the review to save us getting our hopes up.
Thank you.

!!! As far as I know, all the books I have put up are still available; all are relatively recent - within the last 5 years or so.

If not available from the publishers, all should be easily available through second hand dealers, such as Abebooks, Barnes and Noble or Amazon. Was there one in particular you were interested in?

Sorry Paul, I'm afraid I was in total rant mode there. An incident in the real world was playing heavily on my mind and unfortunately in that state of mind I shouldn't have been posting anything and just walked away from the computer.

That said, I was particularly interested in the MMP Walrus and Stranraer book, but there are none listed on the publishers site (Sold Out) or Amazon (there was a different MMP book listed on Amazon - only 3 used available, starting from £93.00!!).

I've managed to get an original Matchbox Stranraer and wondered if the MMP book contained detailed rigging plans or photographs at least.

I'll have a look at some of the places you've mentioned and see if I can get a copy of the book.

Once again, very sorry for going all Victor Meldrew on you.

Cheers
Al.

No worries, Al. I am re-purposing my IPMS reviews and they are so recent that it didn't occur to me that the publishers may not have them. Still, Abebooks has this one, and many, many more great aviation books - I just ordered a couple of books from there this morning in fact.

Don't forget to check with the specialist Aviation booksellers, eg. aviation bookshop and midland counties/ian allen.

No rigging diagram per se, but the plans seem to show most of it. There are lots of useful photos of the restore one at Hendon as well. Try to make sure the book you buy has the plans sheet - it is loose.
