Well, the day started fine but thirty miles from Telford my car's timing chain (yes chain) slipped off the cogs and killed my engine and I spent the afternoon either being relayed towards home or waiting for connecting tow trucks. I MISSED THE SHOW (wail)

That's terrible news David, I was very much looking forward to meeting you in person. Hope the car can be repaired.

Only 30 miles..? A real modeller would have walked and been there in time for Sunday... :ha: :ha: :ha: :ha: :ha:

Seriously, to get so close, must be incredibly frustrating, more so with the added complications of vehicle recovery and loss of mobility...

Tom, whether it can be repaired depends on how much damage it has suffered, if the damage is limited to the cylinder head it may be possible at reasonable cost but if the pistons are also damaged it may need a fresh engine. Simon, LOL, and tell me about it, very annoying.

Hi David.

Sorry to hear that the car is so badly damaged. I felt gutted for you when I received the phone call from you. I hope you can get it sorted soon.

All the best.

How awful David, and a chain too! How unusual is that? A chain driven cam is so reliable usually. Were there any symptoms beforehand? I've had issues with Japanese motorcycle camchains before but they always rattle like buggery for ages before giving up.

There were no warning signs at all, it just stopped (one mile from the M6 Exit). Maybe the bolt(s) holding the tensioner in place came loose and the belt was thrown off?
