Cosford Model Show 2018

Post by Dazzled »

The Cold War SIG will be displaying here again on April 8th. This year we're going to have four tables with a 24' frontage. We're usually situated in the Cold War hangar (appropriately :) ) next to the Avro York so if you're going to be there please pop over and say hello.

Been there, done that, said hello... even bought a kit (appropriately, a MiG-23 ).

Show was the usual great stuff spread throughout the four halls. Cosford is one of the best places for a show -- I mean. where else can you have SIG displays right under or next to the vehicles they're about? Didn't see the Luftwaffe SIG there, but they usually lurk near the Me 410, the Fw 190 and Black 6, but the Japanese Aircraft SIG were in their usual spot in front of the Ki-100 and my favourite Cosford aircraft, the Dinah. And, of course, the Cold War SIG were in the Cold War Exhibition right where Dazzled said they'd be; not only that, but the RC Tank Combat group had their display next to the Centurion up the other end.

The Art Gallery in Hangar 1 was even better than usual, featuring a special exhibition of "RAF 100" paintings by the Guild of Aviation Artists -- and well up to the usual standards of the Guild they were, too. Kinda makes me wonder what they'll have left for the annual show in July, but what the heck. If I had a few grand to spare (fat chance!) and some free wall space, there was more than one painting there that I'd have happily snapped up. But in lieu of having that much dosh to spare, I settled for some bargains in the way of kits and books.

Overall, it was the kind of brilliant show that I expected, with the added bonus of all the amazing stuff at Cosford -- more than usual at the moment while Hendon is being revamped. Well worth the stiff back and leg muscles that I am suffering from as I write...

A great day out today with Craig visiting Dazzled and Kitaholic and their good ladies on the Cold War stand. Also bumped into Old Tonto and said hello. A great display as usual. Time went by so fast as there was so much to see. Bagged some bargains, prices seemed lower than at both Telford and Huddersfield so it the stash has received some additions.

This was a fantastic show in an excellent setting with loads of trade stands and club\group displays. It was a long drive (especially with a demented SatNav misdirecting us! ) but well worth the trip and I picked up a few bargains :-D .
I got my hands on an ESCI F-5A with Canadian, Dutch & Greek markings. Rarer than rocking horse poop those things. 8-)

I also picked up an Italeri F-5F two-seater from the same stand, bagging them both for £20.
Next I found an Italeri AH-1T Sea Cobra for £4 which I plan to convert back to a AH-1J (TOW) to be build in Iranian Markings. I'm well chuffed. 8-)

It was great to catch up with Craig & Shane at the Cold War SIG stand. Some wonderful models on display there guys so well done to you all for making the effort. I spotted those two groupies hanging around too, I hope they didn't spoil you day. ;-)
I was especially pleased to find a modeller even tighter than me, did you break your £5 barrier Shane?

Overall a super show and highly recommended.

Nope, didn't pay more than a fiver for any kit, and I ended up with 8 i think. The most expensive items I bought were a new nozzle for my H+S from Little Cars @£13 and a Korean War Carrier base board from Coastal Kits for £7

I thought this was a pretty good show - nice range of models on display, some good trade stands and it was really nice to meet Craig (planecrazyman61) at the Cold War SIG stand. Sorry I missed Shane and Daz, but I'll be sure to look in at the next show. Picked up an Italeri F-16C for a fiver (that's the 101 Squadron project bought if not quite built yet) and an old KP Su-7 for £4, which is still a bargain even for KP at the depths of their powers.
I walked away with cash still in my pocket so it would seem I really am a lightweight after all. :)

Sorry I couldn't make it again guys, work really seems to hate me going to this show as I always get my holiday refused!
Cracking display by everyone at the CW SIG!
