Cheers! I'm doing a bit of both on the wings, and I'll probably end up with something that doesn't look half good at all - the colour coat will reveal all....

bluesteel wrote:That fuel tank really gives it something extra, excellent work.

But I'm not sure I'd want to be a crew member flying low around Taranto with a large exposed tank of Av Gas slap bang in their midst
Apparently, there was a breather pipe on top, and during take off, the fuel sploshing around streamed out of the breather, soaking the poor rear cockpit occupant.....

Got some serious bench-time last night and was able to attach the lower wings - not the greatest of fits - the tailplanes and some of the struttery. I'll be needing some filler......

More progress today. Got the struts in position, then added the top wing. In doing so, I broke three struts; I replaced them with airfoil-shaped plastic strut material - probably should have replaced the lot, but I didn't trust the strength of it TBQH...

Also added a coat of primer - almost ready for camo coats.

Progressing nicely here - no pics though.... I'll take some later. I got the camo done, the decals just went on and I'm fiddling with the torpedo at the mo. I am very hopeful of being done today.

Done! I surprised myself actually, as I was dreading the rigging, but it didn't go too badly. She does need a final dull coat, but it's too late to do it today so I'll have to wait until I'm back from my vacation. 8-)

Anyways, here's a couple of pics - more in the completed builds thread. This is an aircraft of 815 Squadron, aboard HMS Illustrious for the Taranto Raid. The undersides were roughly painted with a black distemper just prior to the raid, which explains the rough black coat that I actually applied with a paintbrush...

Decals from my Modeldecal stock.

There's a little tidying up to do as well, but I have to finish packing now.

I'll be at the US Nats next week - if anyone here will be there, please stop by the SAM Pubs stand and say hi!

Now that scheme makes the stringbag look a bit sinister.

Have a great vacation Paul.

Very nice, Paul. Great scheme and yes, the rigging is top notch.

Great job Paul. Have fun at the Nats...and give Mr. Knights some flak.
