Airjim's Royal Canadian Navy Swordfish

A fast and furious month-long build, to take place during July, 2011. Gentlemen, grab your string bags (either Airfix, Matchbox or FROG in origin). We have a running start.
Each builder is to have a unique build (i.e There will be no two Eugene Esmondes in this GB).
For further information, please PM either JRatz, Brews or PaulBradley.

Well I'm going to try my best to actually finish this in a month...but my track record is poor.

I'm using the Revell AG rebox of the Matchbox kit. It looks like this:

I miss the three colours, but it certainly will make it easier to paint.

My subject is Swordfish III NR944 of FRU 743 of the Royal Canadian Navy. Overall doped aluminum.

My plan is simple...out of the box, nothing added but with some subtractions. No rockets or torpedo on a post war bird. I am going to try to rig it, but otherwise what Matchbox molded is what you will get. Simple extends to my plan to use a Tamiya spray can for the silver dope. Completion is more important to this project then detail.

Might get a little work in tonight, but otherwise I start Sunday.

First off I noticed a couple of hefty sink marks under the fuselage. This were easily filled with some Mr. Dissolved Putty. The highly detailed cockpit...well at least compared to the Airfix kit...consists of two seats and two floors. The seats were sprayed Tamiya Hull Red and all the rest Tamiya Interior Green. Tomorrow I'll close up the fuselage. I keep wanting to add seat belts and a control column, but such improvements are verboten...closing up the fuselage quickly will prevent AMS from setting in.

Sorry for the "arty" photo and look at that poor ignored Hurricane in the background...

Fuselage together. A little Mr. Surfacer spread. Tomorrow is sand and polish and then add the tail surfaces.

I hope...

Here is where we stand tonight.

Fuselage together, seams cleaned up. The lower wings have also been assembled. Even though many of you could do this in an afternoon, I'm pretty impressed with my progress.

Sadly I'll be out of town for the weekend, so I will loose some valuable time.

Maybe, finally... After being out of town, work got busy and today was the first chance to get back to the forum. I hope to get some work in on the 'fish later tonight.

I did a little work today, and hope to get some serious work in tomorrow. That being said, there is no way I will finish on time. But I will finish. Heck, if I finish by the end of August it will still have only taken me two months, and in my world that is a speed build!

That too, though I will admit I've been enjoying the Spit XIX quite a bit and it will probably be finished first.
