I found some info on the pilot of my bird, Syd ford.

He shot down 2 FW 190s over dieppe, and once sank a german DD!

Unfortunetly he did not survive the war.

OK, we are offically underway!

First, sprue shots of the airfix kit:

this is an old kit, '1979' is stamped inside her, but has very nice detail for a kit from that era!

Next let's take a look at the Aeromaster decals that will make her into squadron leader Ford's plane:

The first spit is the one I will make.

The decals are excellent, unfortunetly i used the black wing lines on another spit so i will have to paint them on this one!

The cockpt and seat are constructed, and test fitted into the fuselage, and the propellar is built.

the next phase is to paint the interior before glueing anything, and the pilot must also be painted.

Its a shame the canopy is molded closed, i would have liked it open and had ford waving at us!

There is some nice detail in the larger kits. Can't you cut open the canopy?

You seem to be cruising Chris. The pilot looks exceptionally well done.

Brews wrote:Although black is a good contrast to interior green, it's not the only choice you have when it comes to washes. You might consider a sienna or burnt umber wash next time - just try it and see how you like it.
I'll have to keep that in mind for my next wash

Great start. The cockpit looks good. Like Brews says, there is many ways to go for washes. I like to darken the original paint color for my washes. A car modeler in my local band of pirates taught me that and it looks nice.
