@ Bromo. I have the Airfix kit also. It's almost unfair to compare the two kits. I'll try and do some comparison shots for you throughout the build

Re: Dirk's 1/72 Academy US A Typhoon
Last night I cracked the box on the Typhoon. It's a late start but a start none the less. Here's where I am now.
First off the cockpit back wall is shaped wrong. The top should be rounded not squair.
After a little time with a file we have a better representation of this part
Next onto the seat. The front lip of the seat is missing. With a scrap piece of plastic card we have a better looking seat
Here you can see the interior detail of the Academy kit. Not to bad actually
After a little time with the dremmel we have this
After my work on the Russian Hurricane cockpit I was willing to try the same practice again. The only problem is the Typhoon cockpit cage is a bit more complex then the Hurricane. In the end I might scrap the whole thing and just do out of the box but for right now I'm still determined
Thanks for looking

You have to love the Dremel. Should be some good work there, I don't have the patience for that sort of thing in 1/72.
Would ya like to learn to fly? Would ya? Would you like to see me try?

I love such detail, i could never do it, its just too hard for me to see.

Re: Dirk's 1/72 Academy US A Typhoon
AUGH, my son decided to have a sleep over at the last minute and since he hangs out at the other end of the room I build in I don't see myself getting to do any building tonight. So much to do so little time....

I've had that problem on occasion too. I usually grab a new kit, file, knife and sanding sticks and go somewhere else to do a bit of basic cleanup work.Dirkpitt289 wrote:AUGH, my son decided to have a sleep over at the last minute and since he hangs out at the other end of the room I build in I don't see myself getting to do any building tonight. Re: Dirk's 1/72 Academy US A Typhoon
Last night (Sunday) after a long weekend of family commitments I sat at my bench and had an realization. With my chosen build path and the remaining time in the GB I know that there is no way I'll ever get this done on time so in the immortal words of Gunny Hightower its was time to "Improvise, Overcome and Adapt." Heck we all know it'll never be seen anyway so whats the point, right? Time for a new plan.
I disassembled the 4.5 hours of work on the cockpit and started over. Hopefully this will alllow me to catch up to the rest of the pack.
Thanks for looking

Great work on the cockpit Dirk!
I must get some of that evergreen stuff, I know I saw it in my LMS.
Cheers,
Paul

Re: Dirk's 1/72 Academy US A Typhoon
like anything else if you try to buy it all at once it can get expensive but if you get a little here and there even when you don't need it I find it easier to swallow the cost. It's really really great stuff to have sitting next to your bench.IrishAir wrote:Great work on the cockpit Dirk!

Great catch-up work Dirk. I think what you got there will be more than sufficient for what might be seen through the small opening.
