Splash's Spitfire Mk IX *** Finished ***
The sound of a Rhubarb GB was just to interesting to ignore, so as normal I start the GB having done no homework.
Today I picked up an Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Mk IX, I’m not sure if this is a new kit or just been re-released?
First impressions are not bad it’s not as detailed as their Mk1a the cockpit is lacking in the detail department, but will all be covered up when the canopy goes on anyway. You do get a nice pilot with separate arms, which is a nice touch.
The parts seam to fit OK, except for the upper and lower wing halves, The lower wings are two thick at the rear and need thinning down so that it fits flush with the flaps that are moulded as part of the upper wings.

Wings on and a quick coat of primer, just a couple of seams to sort out.

It’s far better than the old Airfix MkV but not as good as the new MkIa, I think in some respects the surface detail is better than the new MkI but the new MkI has a far superior cockpit.
Overall it’s a nice kit thats good value for money.

Great progress Splash. Good job illustrating the clean up of the lower wing surface.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Cheers Splash,1/72 scale seems to be getting more detail lately than older 1/48th offerings must be a good thing
