I wouldn't mind joining you for some mustangs. Matter of fact, I think I have a half-finished Allison engined pony in my stash. Thanks Dirk, I think you just helped me pick out my next project

BLAST!!!

I was giving the spit an oil wash tonight and all of the sudden out of nowhere, patches of paint began to wrinkle up and peel away :(

I used acrylics, why in the world did they react this way to testors thinner??!?!

Looks like another unfinished GB entry for me.... I'm on a roll

I've had that, and worse, happen before. Once I used MIG pigments thinner to wash the rotor head on Academy's 1/48 CH-53E, and once the thinner had eaten through the acrylic paint it attacked the plastic and I watched the rotor blades drop off one by one. All seven of them. A real Wile. E. Coyote moment; if it had happened to somebody else it would have been hilarious. Just one reason I have gone to acrylic washes. FWIW, lighter fuel makes a good thinner for oil based washes and is kinder to the existing finish.

I'm going to look into those that you mentioned in the PM. Its just a blasted shame that all of the really good xtracrylics etc is mail order only. I like to have stuff like this on hand.

That's a real bummer Ralph. What a shame at this point in the build

What acrylics were you using, and was it just the paint that came off, or did the primer come off too?

I was using Poly Scale acrylics. These things typically don't require a primer, so I didn't use one.

I have about four or five patches of paint which came off. I'm going to let things cure for a few days and then sand down around the bare spots and repaint. The only potential problem is that I mixed my shade of ocean gray, and it will be interesting to see if I can match it.

Ralph,

They would have had the same problem on the real thing in this timescale, wouldn't they?

Gee, Ralph. I've never had that happen with PolyScale before. With or without primer. On an un-primered build I normally wipe down the model with achohol pads to get my "greezy" fingerprints off the plastic. A sure sign of that is the paint will bead up. Do not, I repeat, do not give up. Maybe careful masking and another shot of spray will clean it up.

What do you use to thin Polyscale acrylics?
