Re: Vietnam References
It does sound nice .... While it did not "fly in" VN, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_F-14_Tomcat; from whence I extracted the following:MerlinJones wrote:Note that the Tomcat did not fly in Vietnam.
The F-14 was the first of the American teen-series fighters which were designed incorporating the experience of air combat against MiGs during the Vietnam War. The F-14 began replacing the F-4 Phantom II in USN service starting in September 1974 with squadrons VF-1 Wolfpack and VF-2 Bounty Hunters aboard USS Enterprise (CVN-65) and participated in the American withdrawal from Saigon. The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) and USS Coral Sea (CV-43) carrier attack groups of Task Force 77 in the South China Sea provided air cover over the evacuation Task Force 76.

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Re: Vietnam References
I think the Tomcat flew MIGCAP during the Mayaguez incident off Cambodia/Thailand also. In some references this action is considered the last U.S involvment in the Viet Nam War.

Here is a great link to the YO-3A, the original "Stealth" flying machine.

Just a note for the builders of the Huey UH-1 series. The tail boom had exposed rivets and the forward fuselage was flush riveted. A big difference in the appearance of the model.

Re: Vietnam References
Are there any recommended books of Vietnam aviation, other than the ones listed below?
The Warbirds Illustrated series has 4 volumes devoted to the subject, one of those being in full colour.
Then there's an Osprey "Vietnam: The Air War".
These are good books, with lots of decent images for reference and interest.
I've got "Aircraft of the Vietnam War: a Pictorial Review" on the way.
I suppose I'm looking for similar tomes, as opposed to the likes of the Osprey "F-105 Units of the Viet Nam War", etc..

Bruce

Re: Vietnam References
I think Bill Gunston wrote a book Aircraft of the Vietnam War.
One I own is An illustrated guide to the air war over Vietnam: Aircraft of the Southeast Asia conflict by Bernard C. Nalty

Squadron did a three part series called Air War-Vietnam. Good stuff if you can find them now.
