'Nam Chat
Re: 'Nam Chat
I am really amazed at the choice of builds. Some very obscure subjects and yet important use during the conflict.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale
Re: 'Nam Chat
I'm almost done with my other GB project, i might jump in with a huey if that's OK with you tonto.
Didn't want to commit ahead of time until i knew i would have the time.

Re: 'Nam Chat
As I'm digging out my 'Nam references, I'm aware of just how shielded I must've been as a kid. Certainly, if I had been fully aware of what was going on in SE Asia, as I was with the later Falklands conflict, I know my childish mind would have sought out the relevent weapons of that war. Looking at the kit back catalogues, certainly the model companies seemed to provide sufficient hardware.
Curious.

Bruce

Over the next week, I'll have completed my O-2's and Bronco brace.
One of my modelling aims for this year was to reduce my 1/144 stash and this GB gives me an opportunity to do this.
I see some Providers on the horizon.

Bruce

Re: 'Nam Chat
I build a vintage 'F-100D SuperSabre' Battle damaged from IMC. 1:72. Shape and particulars are very inaccurate, build just for fun.

Re: 'Nam Chat
Before diving in to the build OT, can I bring my part started OV-1C Mohawk along which has got as far as 75% of the cockpit? Of course, being a Roden kit that should be the easy part of the construction
Would ya like to learn to fly? Would ya? Would you like to see me try?

So where is everybody?
Prior to the build, there was a lot of enthusiasm...or so it seemed from the postings.
A lot or you have even signed up to build and it's still quiet...too quiet...
On the up, Postie delivered my copy of Bill Gunston's "Aircraft of the Vietnam War" this morning. Predomininantly black and white photos, the book is much enhanced by Mr. Gunston's writing on each subject.

Bruce

Re: 'Nam Chat
...And another thing!
The Kamen Huskie was a very active little beastie and the only 1/72 kit I can find is from Mach 2. Do I really have to part with the best part of £20, (from Hannants), to get a 1/72 Huskie in my shelf?

Bruce

Re: 'Nam Chat
of course this monument (fetish is joke) for a socialist Vietnam on Ho Shi Minh square. But now nobody don't remember who was Ho Shi Minh and war in Indo-China, except some modellers and history enthusiast
Re: 'Nam Chat
As my Providers and B-57 make fianl approach, I'm looking as to what to do next.
Something that'll result in a relatively small model, so 1/144 is an obvious choice, but I have some smaller 1/72's, including helicopters, which seem under-represented in the Build, given the huge contribution they made to the conflict.
The Huey is already taken and I've already got Cobras. I'm leaning towards a Kiowa, although the Sea Knight's a nice kit...but there's already been one recently in the Forum. A Chinook's too big at the moment, as is the Flying Banana and my Revell Skycrane, although the latter's working features and added extras are tempting.
I've already got a Loach and Sea Sprite and Sea Kings and Super/Green Giants are too big again...

Kamen Huskie it is...with a Matchbox Kiowa, for light relief.
