Re: Fastest Recce Bird-Pugz Vigilante
ok minor snagette, my missus trod on my canopy and being airfix it has two pieces and fortunately its only the front piece, that said i cant find another...does anyone have any ideas???
In termes of progress tho, i have the back completed on the first the second isn't far behind it but the aim is to get one fully completed if i get two then awesome.
top side
underside
the revell canopy is one piece, but is slightly larger than the airfix...no aftermarket canopies available.....

Re: Fastest Recce Bird-Pugz Vigilante
OK this is what it looked like last night....I have made progress since then. I had a brilliant idea whilst watching the hungarian grand prix and i decided to saw up the revell vigilante cockpit to replace the broken parts......

Re: Fastest Recce Bird-Pugz Vigilante
With the reconstruction of the new canopy there is a gap between the front and reflector pieces so i have attempted to fill this gap with PVA glue.
here we are with al decals on awaiting the PVA Glue to dry....
a quick touch up of paint and some coats of klear and matt varnish and this should be finished.....

Re: Fastest Recce Bird-Pugz Vigilante
with time running short, im nearly gonna call this finished. Im just waiting for the paint to dry before i post in the gallery.
so heres a summary of things i have learnt about this build....
1) keep a good look out on the carpet particularly when the heavy footed missus is about...
2) If in doubt resort to resourcefulness sooner rather than last minute....
3) Always having another kit albeit from another manufacturer for emergency spares is always good.
With all these points in mind, the Airfix kit was pretty good. I was starting with a warped fuselage and it needed alot of filler, the underside isnt too pretty ( i will post anyways) but then the worst is covered by the recce pod.The revell kit whilst incomplete is fractionally wider and a bit longer than the airfix kit, but is very similar in construction. Although there is an annoying hump section behind the cockpit which again even with rigorous sanding still needed filler, with the tail section that was the only areas on the revell kit that needed filler. the airfix kit goes into alot of hidden detail in the tail section but had a tongue and groove type fitting and is one of the main reasons that it didnt need filler.everything else was pretty straight forward and i reckon if you got a decent fuselage this kit would be a dream and i would recommend it if you have space..I will be looking for another just to see if it was my loft that caused the fuselage to warp.
