1/72 Seabee and Criquet

Post by Tommy »

I'll join this one with a pair of little 1/72 scale kits - Mach 2 Republic RC-3 Seabee in French-Indochina in 1949 and a SMER MS.500 Criquet of the Vietnam Air Force in 1952.

As you might have guessed, the Criquet is the post-war French version of the Fiesler Fi-156 Storch.

Oh, now that is a great build idea. Lot's of lesser known machinery going into this GB.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, I didn't want to forget the little guys.

Latest progress:

Hardest part today was assembling the canopy from the five parts. Stressful, but its done. The little angular brace goes inside the top of the canopy. I'll paint it (RLM 02?) and then place it inside with tweezers. Then I'll tack it down with little dabs of epoxy in the corners.

Did you get to climb inside? How about a ride in it?

Two different subjects for me to watch. I like the attention paid to the less-mentioned.
Was the Criquet made by someone else, prior to SMER? It's now on my Wants list.
I'm also interested in the SeaBee, although Mach haven't got a good reputation for quality. That said, the bits look fine from where I'm sitting.

Hi Bruce,

Yes, its the old Heller Fi-156 Storch. The Criquet is the French post war version - comes in two flavors - inline MS.500 and radial MS.502 as you probably found in your Academy kit.

Oh, well the Academy kit of the Fi-156/Criquet has parts for both the MS.500 (inline engine) and the MS.502 (Radial Engine). With that kit you end up with spare parts which is always nice. 8-)

Latest on the Criquet:

Image

I painted the interior parts with Tamiya RLM Gray.

Latest on the Seabee:

Cleaned most of the parts. I assembled the engine pod, the wing and painted the interior of the fuselage with Tamiya Sky Gray.

The plastic on this Mach2 kit is similar to that found in Merlin Models Kits.
