To be honest, I think it takes more...er...'courage' to say "No...I'm not going to do that!"
This is supposed to be fun after all.

Jeff,

I understand completely (especially having spent a couple of hours trying to make a basic framework for the Mosquito cockpit - and failing miserably) :frown: . It's about what you want to do with the kit.

Looking forward to seeing more progress.

Trial run today to make sure the painted cockpit fit into the fuselage. It did.

Image

Gaps you see will disappear when the fuselage edges get smoothed out.

The TBM was a rivited machine. The Airfix kit is a VERY rivited machine. Now I don't fret much over raised or engraved panel lines and such. But the kit rivits are a bit much. So a little work with wet-dry to knock them down a little sure helps.

Here, the wings are matched up (again dry run) to get a heads up on gaps or problem areas.

Image

So far I am really enjoying this kit and do not anticipate any issues.

Sword recently released a Sea Gladiator and perhaps Airfix left the FAA alone because FROG had covered them? They were also aiming for a more international, (ie American) market.

State of play.

The main construction is completed now with seamlines to be tidied up.

This picture is of the flap deployment.

Next shot is of the overall construction at this point.

As stated before, there is nothing I can nit-pick with this kit.

Well, you're a lot further along on this kit than I am, and I suspect yours will end up looking better ....

As of today, some progress made.

I fashioned a gunsight out of a block of sprue and the lens was made from a parts number tag off the clear sprue. The lens was sanded down with various grits and a coat of Future finished it off.
So far, everything in this build has been sourced from the kit box with the exception of a small square of sheet stock.

Image

Here is the TBM on it's legs for the first time. The main struts were weakened slightly by adzing off the mould lines.

Image

A problem I had to overcome was the prop. For some reason the blades were all "scrunched" up on the sprue. Not sure why. But with gentle warming and bending, they came back into shape. You can make out the light streaks in the blades from bending.

Image

On ward and upward. I wish to clean up the rivits on the fuselage a little more before painting.
