OK...Jim...you can have your thread back now...if you want them, I think I may have a couple of 1/72 Kormorans in the spares box - will have a look when I get home tonight...

They were big Kormorans for big Soviet ships :) also its cold in the Baltic, they need a bit of blubber.. :ha:

Cockpit tub fitted
Image
With no locating tits, it was a pain to get lined up, lots of test fitting, and some slicing to get it sitting where I think it should, of course it is not where Heller intended.

Herman the pilot..
Image
An Airfix pilot figure, that I sliced his arm off to move to a stick holding position, rather than the hands on knees.

Modified Kormoran
Image
Looking at Kormoran piccies, the MRCA missiles are not quite right, so I trimmed the fins, not going to be spot on but they'll do me.

Also have to modify the pylons..
Image
not so pointed more of a square tip, a bit of sanding and will be closer.

Stand mount
Image
Nice place to pop the tube for the mount, a bit of sprue and some CA as well, flooded around it.

Jet nozzle
Image
Quite a bit of work in the rear section, took a few nights to cement in sections, as it seemed to be bowed. Then had to get a dowl with sand paper wrapped around, and go to work to open it up so the nozzle would fit. Had to remove quite a bit of plastic.

Also on the rear fuselage, the aribrakes, not meant to be closed.. they have little legs moulded on the front to position them open, so slice them off and then shape them to fit, one side fits not bad...
Image
the other well a bit of filler is needed...

The kit itself is a bit more work than I was expecting, but I think I've got the major bits sorted out.

Cheers
Jim

Jagewa, starting to look as nicely as more modern kits. I like the Kormoranski adjustment as well. Nice.

Well no work the last few days, I´ve got a shocking head cold, can´t really face any building at the moment. Hopefully some stronger pills and we´ll be back to it.

Cheers

Jim,

Ditto. 3 days off work and no incentive to model at all. Beginning to feel better now, though.

I hope you feel better soon also!

Never seen this one being done before - looks a bit sharper than the Airfix version.

.. Commander Dirk!

.. I've been hit ....

... flames ...

... won't make the strike...

...good luck all.......

Well I surrender, I've had enough of trying to force this kit together, I've was patient about the bowed rear fuselage, the wing insert that sort of fits, if you clamp it really hard, but now I come to put the nose section onto the rear and it needs more clamping and squeezing to make the cross sections match. I've no doubt if I do force it it will go ping further on.

I think I should have tried to fix the rear fuselage bow with warm water, as I think the step by step way of cementing it has compounded fit issues as I've gone along.

Then there is the nose section...
Image
The nose cockpit fit was terrible and when I added the other nose half, I've got this step, so I must have made a major alignment mistake when I put the cockpit tub in. There are various other alignment issues, that are just going to be a pain to fix, so that's it for this build, the first one I've really given up on.

Thanks Dirk for running this, great idea, and some great builds.

Right off to the LHS to buy a Hobby Boss easy assembly kit....

Cheers

Stryker......Stryker........Ted Stryker? Oh no. Not sure what to say Jim. You picked a bad time to quit sniffing glue.
