Thanks as ever chaps for keeping with me on this one

All masked up and the first coat of EDSG is on:

Now I have a bit of a problem. It is to do with the recommended finish scheme that Revell supply, they suggest a EDSG/ dark slate grey uppersurface with the white everywhere else. But I've done some digging and:

1. An article called "Coastal Colours - Coastal Command aircraft 1939-1977" by Michael J. F. Bowyer that appeared in the "Airfix Magazine Annual 7 For Modellers" states that 'A new directive issued on January 23 1943 ordered that upper surfaces of all large aircraft in the command would be entirely Extra Dark Sea Grey' it also goes on to state that 'This new scheme was also to apply to Halifaxes of the Command'

2. The aircraft that the kit markings represent is supposedly from 1944 so would have had at least 12 to 24 months to be re-painted to comply with the new directive.

3. The original Matchbox issues of this kit had the Coastal Command option in white / EDSG only but this was of a different aircraft (but same Squadron IIRC).

So basically does anyone have a photo or a link to a photo that shows this aircraft (HR744. O of no.58 squadron RAF CC) that would give me a definate answer?

If not I think I may do this one to conform with the Air Ministry's directive as it will contrast nicely to the other airframes in the collection.

Tom

Crikey, have to conform to directives wot! any other path leads to anarchy

As you can tell I have no idea, but it is looking fine in that colour scheme.

Too right old boy, can't have chaps choosing which directives to follow and which to ignore, we're not Jerry after all :ha:

As you can probably guess I've decided to stick with straight EDSG and the second coat has evened the surface out nicely, photo's on the 'morrow.

Well I should have known better than to promise pictures last time shouldn't I?? Having had a rather difficult week with work and family matters I haven't gotten as much done on the Halifax as I would like, but I have done something, honest!

Piccies:

Image

Glazing on, spinners on, exhausts on, painting of main structure complete and new nose gun located.

Close up of the front end, there is a prize of one Internet Cookie for the first to spot what is out of place  :

Still to do:

1. Glaze the small side windows.
2. Gloss coat everything.
3. Detail paint the exhausts.
4. Paint the turret framing and finish the cockpit frames.
5. Decals.
6. Matt coat
7. Fit all the remaining sticky out bits; aerials and bomb doors etc.

So not much then

Working from the checklist in my previous post only steps 6 and 7 are left to go :-D , I've finished the decals and am just waiting for the Klear coat to cure before matting the airframe down:

Hopefully the next pictures will show the finished article

Thanks for watching the build guys, it has been a long, and at times difficult road but I have learnt a lot of new skills and I think have improved on others.

Well done Tom it has turned out very well. The effort into making those improvements has paid off and again these 'night' bombers look great in the CC schemes.
