Re: Shaun's Big Boeing
Many thanks to all for your kind comments and interest in this project. Typical of me, however, I start out with the best intentions of building OOB and then end up messing about adding this and that with the result that the timespan for finishing lengthens accordingly. I will try to finish on time in the spirit of the GB but I can see this build ending up on my workbench window thread. This is the first time I've built anything in public as it were, with pics etc and I must say that I have found the whole GB experience very enjoyable
Next up is yet more sanding and filling in order to finish up the engine pods and hopefully this weekend will see plenty of paint going on. I will try not to distract myself with more fiddling about - we shall see!

Neat work with the foil Shaun .
Re: Shaun's Big Boeing
This one is certainly going to be a beauty. It definitely isn' my old one. That was part assembled and stripped down when I acquired it. One of the choices for aircraft that I worked on is a Beech Bonanza reg G-ARKJ that I did some spannering on at Bagby airfield.

Re: Shaun's Big Boeing
Thank you for your further kind words gents. I have noticed that the viewing count on this thread is rather large and I'm flattered by the amount of attention that this build has received to date. Hopefully I won't make a blast up of the painting and final assembling but if I do then at least plenty of you will get some entertainment from my predicament! It will be shown, warts and all

Yep, there's no hiding in a GB. If your painting skills are as precise as your attention to detail this will turn out to be a real cracker. Oh, and thanks for all the tips.

Thanks for your support and wit boys. I will continue to bung her together come what may. White paint city in the Dubya household this weekend I think and hopefully I can keep the dust devils at bay and the overspray out of Mrs W's line of sight

Its Mrs W you need to worry about i had the bright idea once of spraying in the kitchen the over spray caused Mrs Bromo to not utter a word to me for a week, while i spent hours cleaning the pesky stuff up you have been warnedShaunW wrote:Thanks for your support and wit boys. Brave move Bromo. If Mrs W got wind of me spraying paint in the kitchen I would be a dead man walking! Meat and two veg with essence of White Spirit vapours, yum!

Ah yes Brews, silence can indeed be golden. Bromo you deserve a medal and a mention in despatches for trying to spray paint in the kitchen. I mentioned your efforts to Mrs W who gave me a look suggesting that my meat and two veg would be removed with blunt scissors if I tried such a stunt
Tonight I've had a further look at the engines and after an hour's fettling decided that I couldn't get the rear nozzles to a nice round shape. The plastic at the rear of the engines is thin and somewhat brittle and did not respond very well to my efforts with fine round files and wet and dry paper.
So I dug out some thin-walled Plastruct tubing which happened to be the right diameter, lucky find that...
Here's a pic of one of the engines with the tubing in place, which I think is something of an improvement. If you lot don't agree then no doubt you will not hold back
I will now blend in the tubing and the outer of the exhaust and hopefully will end up with round orifice, so to speak!
As always thanks for your time.

Thanks boys. I bought that tubing about 15 years ago with a load of other Plastruct stuff and never really found a use for it (it was always too wide for what I wanted) until I built the old Revell 1/100th Caravelle the other year, when I used it on the nacelles and now at the back of the BB's engines.

Nice orifice... not something you hear every day....
The round tubing is one of the more useful pieces of plastic all right.
Cheers

Re: Shaun's Big Boeing
Nothing too exciting to show for this afternoon's efforts. After the previous stretched sprue and engine liner and exhaust tube thrills I'm afraid it's back to boring old prep work and painting. Today I've misted on the next coat of white and this time without causing any runs and I've managed a "quit while your ahead" thin coat which I'll continue to build up. Sorry for the quality of the pics this week, but I've been in a bit of a rush, you know poeple to see, places to go... well not really, it's my turn to do the cooking.
Here's the left hand side
and the right
IMHO white is a beeatch of a colour to apply and very much like a NMF in that every flaw shows! From past experience, I know not to rush white but give it several thin coats, flatting it down with fine micromesh (used wet) after each coat, leading up to the final gloss coat and to be patient. I can't remember how many paint jobs I've screwed up by being impatient, but it's quite a few!
In the morrow I will apply more white and will get on with the engine pods.
Thanks for looking.
