Thanks boys. This model is a tough old bird but so far I've enjoyed the challenges that it's thrown up. The main difficulty with the painting so far, apart from the fact that it's white, is the size of the thing which makes it quite difficult to manoever with airbrush in hand!

Ha Bromo, what are you like?!? :-D

Well today has been more of the same really. I won't continue to bore you all with further shots of a B747 fuselage gradually becoming more white. However, I've applied the first of the gloss coats today so I thought I'd show you the results of that.

Here's the right hand side

and the left

and here's a closer shot

Bit more fettling required on the sprue "panels" I think and, as always, there are some dust devils to remove with micromesh  I've also done some work on the engines with filler, so I'll get those finished up and then continue with the white and, just for a change, I might break out the grey in order to start painting the wings and tailplanes. Hopefully next time I feature the fuselage you will need your shades on for the glare

Sorry that progress is slow but real life (read work!) keeps interrupting!

Thanks for your time.

You're not wrong there Dazzled. Something I need your help on is wing colours. The Heller instructions are a bit vague and seem to suggest that the wing and tailplane centre panels are painted silver, with the rest of the surface being grey. That's a new one on me as I always thought Boeing painted the wings two shades of grey, with the centre panel being a darker shade. I think I read somewhere that light and dark Compass Greys are a good match, or was that Ghost Greys? I realise that Air France might have specified something else, but I can't find any good references. Any help will be gratefully received!

You're right about the greys Shaun. The centre panels of the wings are painted a dark grey while the outer panels are light grey/metal coloured. The dark grey denotes walkways. Hope this helps. :)

Shaun,

It looks like it'll be a most impressive beast when finished, and you've done a great job with the little tweaks. Keep it going!

Thanks for your support boys. Alas work has got in the way once again this week and has taken me away from the bench. Today, after a visit to my LMS to relieve them of yet more Tamiya X2 gloss white, I've flattened off the sprue panel work so that it blends in better with the kit panel lines. I thought my first effort was far too prominent once the paint had been applied. As you can see in the pics below, I've mocked the kit up with the wings to give you an impression of where I'm at (naturally, the fit of the wings is going to be a trial by the look of things  ).

As you can see, unless someone has a party of tame modelling elves that they can get to me pretty sharpish there ain't no way I'm going to finish this by tomorrow

Still, this kit has been a lot of fun so far and it has made me do some "proper" modelling for a change. I'm still very much up for finishing this, it is rare for me to abandon a kit and will more than likely transfer the rest of the build onto my workbench thread or possibly into the aviation modelling section. Once again, many thanks to you all for your interest in this project and give me another month and it might just be finished

Yes a great build Shaun, you can really see this is going to turn out a pearl when she's done.

This has been a fascinating piece of modelling and, whilst the paint dries, you'll be able to clear some space in your home, to facilitate your flying it around the house, making whooshy noises.
