Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
Looks good Martin, and a nice tutorial regards the exhausts thanks very much for that.
BEEN A WHILE
Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
To all,
Thanks.
Filler spread on liberally tonight; most thickly behind the nose turret fairing which, although it fits reasonably, does not match the contours of the front fuselage at all well. Admittedly, this may be my fault as I ground down the reinforcing strip immediately behind the fairing, and I may have taken this too far.
I'll let you see how it looks like after a lot of sanding . . .
regards,
Martin

Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
. . . but I can't coz PhotoBucket won't play.
Anyway, it doesn't look too bad, but I'll have another go with the filler tonight on the worse bits, and I need to do a bit more sanding in a couple of areas (upper / lower fuselage seam). However, hopefully won't be too long before paint.

Martin

Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
Don't talk to me about Photobucket Damned thing only works when it wants to. Glad everything's going well though, particularly given the ambitious nature of such a build for a GB. Hope the pesky bucket problems are solved soon and we can see some pictures

Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
PB still not working but little to report . I'm still trapped in a sand - prime - fill - sand cycle . the problem seams are the underside and bomb bay insert. I'll get it hacked - but not in time for this GB end date sadly.
Thanks for all the comments and letting me play. If PB comes back. I'll post a final progress shot before the end date.

Martin

Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
Brilliant! With two days to go, PB starts working again (I've been trying every night - until now, no dice). Anyway, here's progress from a week ago.
You can't really see the seam issues in this pic, but trust me, they're there. I've done much more sand - fill - prime - sand since the pic was taken.
However, I am pleased to say that the underside is now painted MSG, and the first coat of DE has gone on tonight after appropriate masking. I will do some more tomorrow and take some pics. Maybe have the main camo scheme on before the end of the GB.

Martin

Jim,
No, that pic does not show the issues at all well. Some of these, however, do a better job of explaining what I've been doing this last week:

Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
Coming on nicely , I had similar issues on the B-17 naccelles, awkward place to sand and fill .
Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
Latest status. 2 coats of brushed xtracrylix Dark Earth, and . . .
Another coat this evening, and then 3 coats of Dark Green to go.

Martin

Re: Martin's Grand Slam Lanc
And here's status as of COP 17th. 3 coats of Xtracrylix Dark Earth has resulted in a reasonably consistent colour density (any variation will be put down to in-service wear and tear), and the first coat of Dark Green has gone on, following an extensive pencil outlining session.
The camouflage scheme (minus required touch ups) should be completed by COP tomorrow. I know I won't be finishing during the GB, but after a long time in the sanding n' filling doldrums, it feels like I'm actually making progress again.
I will try to get the prop and spinners together (and hopefully coated in satin black), and make a start at painting the undercarriage pieces tomorrow.

Sheesh! You sound like an old teacher of mine!Brews wrote:I see no reason why, if you apply yourself, you couldn't finish tomorrow.
To throw a few random reasons back at you: UK Mothers' Day, family, garden, paint, decals, transparencies, frame lines, weathering, varnishing . . .
