Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
Thanks Tom. It will be interesting to see how closely these three resemble each other at the end.
I had trouble sleeping due to thinking about this blinking build, and the anticipation of getting near to the finish, so I was up at 5 to put the first coat of green on. I will add another coat later and hope to get some pictures up when time permits. (Starting to be fun again )

Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
As promised, the pictures of the painted article:
I somehow managed to knock one exhaust off and the small Antennae (?) off the front. Luckily I found them before the carpet monster got them. Obviously not hungry this weekend.
The re-shaped nose looks OK now it has got some paint on:
I did the windows with micro crystal kleer, but the Maskol had a diverse effect on them so they need redoing.
Next task is to create the decals for my 'chosen one'.

Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
Nearly finished. The decals are on, as are all the bits that I have knocked off over the last few days Just doing some touch up painting, and still need to attach the wings. Hope to finish soon.

Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
Having assembled everything it has thrown up a minor problem:
The right side tail plane seems to have sagged a bit. Nothing that a bit of shimming with plastic strip won't sort out.
Nearly finished.

Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
It does seem a little askew. I'm sure you can sort it out though

Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
That's a shame, hopefully you haven't got too much glue involved yet. A part of the problem appears to be that the wings aren't true to the fuselage and that is contributing to the tail alignment issue.

Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
It's quite difficult to see from the pic, but JRatz could be right. Both tailplanes appear to be canted over, rather than just the right hand one, if not down to the wing/fuse alignment it could be that there's a warp in the fuselage?. I hope you can sort this without any drama, because otherwise it's looking good.

Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
I thought it was just me but from the pic it does look like a warp in the fuselage from just forward of the mid-upper turret......
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

It could be along those lines, I had to fight mine to get it all lined up. I'm sure you'll be able to beat her into shape.

Re: Molly-News Matchbox Halifax
Fuselage seems to be OK, I think the previous photo was taken slightly off center giving it a weird illusion. With the tailplane shimmed up it all aligns nicely:
This has been a real labour of love, mostly of my own doings as I wanted to do a 502 Squadron model and therefore had to do quite a bit of manipulating to get it right.
The inspiration for the model lies here:
On the night of 3rd-4th October 1944, Halifax GRII, HR686 of 502 Sqn, based at Stornoway, and piloted by Canadians Flt Lt Patrick McManus and F/O Lawrence Lyttle, set off on its 100th operational sortie, a night anti-shipping patrol in the waters between Denmark and Norway.
German nightfighters in the area forced the Halifax to operate at around 200 ft to discourage attacks. On this occasion HR686 encountered heavy anti-aircraft fire and was hit and badly damaged by an armed steamer, the ‘Amisia’. From the moment the aircraft was hit until it crashed into the sea McManus and Lyttle remained at their posts and managed to ditch in relatively flat attitude so the aircraft stayed afloat long enough for the crew to get out. Pat McManus was outstanding in his efforts, keeping the surviving crew together in the water as the dingy had been destroyed. He tied himself to a floating wheel from the aircraft and then using the straps from their Mae Wests managed to get the other survivors to tie themselves to him. Sadly three of the nine man crew were missing and a 4th was later lost. The surviving crew members were eventually picked up by the ship that shot them down and they became POWs. Both McManus and Lyttle were awarded the DFC for their brave actions.
