Anybody feeling ambitious?

I've not seen the actual model, but the box is BIG.

I've got it. Looks great in the box. A little to much for this build but doable in the future.

Ever wonder what happened to the real Airwolf Bell 222 from the TV series?

According to Wikipedia:

After the show was cancelled the modifications were removed (now owned by a private collector) from the actual helicopter. It was repainted and eventually sold to the German helicopter charter company, Hubschrauber-Sonder-Dienst (aka HSD Luftrettung and Blue Helicopter Alliance), and given the registration number D-HHSD. While operating as an air ambulance the helicopter crashed in a thunderstorm on June 6, 1992, killing its three passengers.

The Hughes 369D from Magnum PI, N4943T(one of several used in the Magnum PI series) suffered from a crash landing and was written off. Pilot error by not following the Company recommended procedure for hover-landings. Also, the "Island-Hoppers" paint scheme was not applied for the show. Hughes had the pattern as a paint option at the factory.

Some hard luck for Hollywood birds.

Whirlibird question of the day:

What is this?

Image

Clue one. A most important part of some helicopter operation.

Clue two. In this form, it was earned.

You are close Merlin. But if it were it would have a kanibalin pin attached with safety wire.

Is it inside out?

Is it a tail rotor drive chain?

I figured you would get that one, Splash. You are correct. That is a tail rotor drive chain from a Bell UH-1H. My crew had a tail rotor failure during an insert. After a night with the grunts, we each were given a bracelet made from pieces of the chain which at the time was an Army Aviation tradition. Didn't wear it long as it just weighed to much and it was hard to take on and off.

That was just a lucky guess.

I bet the tail rotor failure was fun, What caused it?

I only ever saw it happen once, it was a wessex 5, I watched it do a running landing with the tail stopped followed by several spins on the spot as he shut down.

Don't you just miss all that fun.

Not sure even after all these years but it was a gearbox failure of some sort. Low level departure from LZ. Did a 180 coming to rest against a berm in a rice paddy.

Just a heads up to say that I will be traveling to Kalamazoo, MI (all day drive) for the 13th annual model contest and show this weekend. I will make every attempt to sign in with wi-fi.

The venue is the really cool Kalamazoo AirZoo with many airplanes to look at including the complete Grumman 'Cat series.

Don't know if this will help but try scale-rotors.com. The link is in the references thread. They may have something.

I have the MPC re-pop of that kit. When my daughter gets home from school, I'll have her scan the instruction for you.
