As you may have guessed from the title my second build for this GB will be a Matchbox Huey Cobra. At £2.00 how could I resist.

The multi coloured sprues really take you back. Seems a shame to paint it.

It reminded me of the one my brother built when it was first released. No paint or filler, just stick it together and put the transfers on.

Looks great. I didn't catch this at first but the tail rotor is on the starboard side. Conversion done later in production for anti-torque reasons. Way to go Matchbox.

I've done a bit to it tonight, nothing worth taking a picture of though.

As a kid I got this and the MB SeaFox completely failed to get the undercarriage to hold together on either - waiting for joints to harden didn't compute at the age of 10. There is always a temptation to revisit the kits you failed to build as a child just to prove to yourself you can build them. Look forward to seeing how you get on with yours.

Thanks for the info on the nose weight.

I've got the cockpit interior finished and the crew on board. One of the more detailed Matchbox cockpits but I suppose with the large canopy you need it.

I've also been doing some work on the rotors, drilling out the filled in areas. Here's a shot showing before and after.

Once I've got the turret together and fitted the exhaust I can close the fuselage up.

Progress made Tim. If you don't mind I would like to point out that the Cobra never carried supplemental oxygen and if you painted the helmets OD, it would be the best in appearence.

Keep it up. I like it alot.

Thanks for the info Jeff, I did wonder about the oxygen. Some minor repainting should sort it out, and the helmets too.

I've been making some improvements to the exhaust. As supplied it looked as if it would be about 4 inches thick if it were scaled up.

Image

I trimmed most of it off and replaced it with a short length of drinking straw.

Image

It needs a bit of tidying up but I think it looks a lot better than the original.
