Today I painted the canopy framing and the weapons and fitted the tail rotor.

I tried to find the rotor mount but it seems the only way I can get to it is take the end off the sofa or develop quadruple jointed hands so I'll be scratching a replacement. Luckily its a straightforward shape so it shouldn't be too difficult.

That's a tough break but you are right in making a replacement.

I did say I was making a replacent rotor mounting and this week I got around to it. I found out that one of the hole punches at work made discs just the right size for the mount to fit on so I took some plastic card to work and punched a few out.

Image

I had a piece of plastic rod for the central part and for the outer sections I cut up a small safety pin. After drilling holes in the underside of the rotor it was time for a trial fit.

Image

It might not look exactly like the kit part but its close enough and it does mean that I can finish it off before the deadline.

Very nice work, Tim. You are cleared to land. Or a "hot re-fuel and re-arming."

After painting the rotor mounting, fitting the rest of the weapons and giving it a coat of matt varnish today the Cobra is finished.

Like most Matchbox kits this was a nice straightforward build which would have been finished quite a bit sooner if I hadn't lost the rotor mounting.
