Splash's Spanish Navy OH-6A ***Finished***

Post by splash »

I have just dropped my wife off at Bristol Airport and as I have got the bug for Helicopter kits, I came back by way of the excellent Helicopter Museum at Weston-Super-Mare.

Big mistake, I just had to pick up these kits.

As the GB has been extended I have time to finish the other Helicopters and start the 1/72 Italeri OH-6A Cayuse, as it's in all over OD and very small it should be a quick build.

Oh my. But if that is the scaled down version of the 1/35 kit, you'll have no trouble with it. I did mine as attached to the 1/9 ("First of the Ninth") Air Cav. Overall O.D. with crossed sabres on the nose and the outline of a star on the doghouse. Everybody does "Miss Claud."

I thought of doing a modified "Blitz" of the Fujimi 1/48 S-mod Cobra but just have a bit on my plate right now to allow it. I'll save it for a real Blitzbau.

Quick update for the work I completed last night.

The interior has been completed the only addition being tape seat belts.

Is this a first? Italeri have included two cyclic & Two collective leavers in this kit.

To night I should have the main parts completed and a coat of paint, I not sure what colours to use OD or a plain blue Spanish Navy a/c. As I’m getting feed up of OD, I think it might be Blue as the kit is so small I might as well just use the hairy stick.

More updates tonight.

Talk to you all later.

Chinese Nationalists used the OH-6 in various guises including glossy sea blue.

Crikey imagine that in 1/144 scale. For an American machine it is surprising dainty. Remember thinking is was like a Mini when I saw one at the Heli' Museum.

Looks like it'll be a quick build. I'd like to see it next to Wessex to see how small it is in comparison.

Small and tough. I've seen them come back with tree limbs tangled in the skids and poking into the windscreen. Very tough and reliable.

It's smaller than the Bell 47, I will photograph it next to a Wessex for you when I get a spare 5 minutes.

As James says It's like a Mini.

We had an exchange pilot from the USA who always said if you have to crash, do it in a OH-6 as you will stand a good chance of walking away from it :-D

That was a fun quick build, no problems at all, the part fit is good and the decals behaved.

The kit comes with three marking the normal US OD plus an Italian Green & Yellow Boarder Patrol a/c and this all Blue Spanish Navy version.

If you need a quick mojo fix this is a good option.

As you can see if you put it next to a Wessex 5 it’s small, even smaller than the Bell 47.
