Sign-up and Chat

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

A continuation of the initial 'Aussie Wings' thread from GB Chat.

Here sign-up for the 'Aussie Wings' GB, state your entry, chat with others who are joining the GB.

Although this started as a celebration of 90 years of the RAAF, it expanded to any real aircraft in Aussie markings, so that would include airplanes, helicopters, military (RAAF or RAN) and civilian .... but no 'whiffs' ....

Your GB Leader is PaulBradley, who will post the details/clarifications here shortly ....

Hi!

Redecorating and work notwithstanding, I will be attempting to build an Airfix Boston III as Flt Lt Bill Newton VC's aircraft, DU-Q, A28-15, "Spirit of Sport".

regards,

I'll be up for this.

It seems I can only finish a model when there is a deadline.

I will do the Airfix 1/48 Hawk 127 in 79 Sqn RAAF colours.
No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

I am in with the Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vb converted to a Vc with a wing from Aeroclub. Not sure which scheme yet. Does anyone know what paint I should use for 'Foliage Green'? I prefer Xtracrylix or Tamiya paints but anything will do.

My info says US Mid Green. This is from a hand written note on a wartime RAAF paint chart. There is a number, 42, which I think is the Humbrol number.

Re Foliage Green.
The RAAF used three Greens in WWII.
Light Green Part number 7516 Humbrol 76 RAAF Ident No. K3/225
Foliage Green 7511 101 K3/177
Dark Green 7515 149 K3/216
These colours were to specification K3.
This information and colours from the Spartan Camoflage Coverings Chart.

Lovely to see some chat already! Some good projects there and I hope I can add to those, though I'm not sure what I'll build. In fact, I'll leave it up to you lot - I'll set up a poll and you can vote for what you want to see me build for this!

Thanks Dai. I think I will just have to get as close as I can - maybe mix my own.

OK, I'll cave in -- the FROG Gannet in RAN markings. I found what may be the only Xtradecal 72-070 sheet in the US today and ordered it. Of course I will have to be concerned that the decal roundels fit into the raised roundel locators on the wings and fuselage !!! The Gannet was one of the earliest FROGs I think, but still looks the part. This will be a pure OOB, not going to do anything to "improve" the 3 heads in the cockpit, etc ...

I could have built the CA 1/48 Gannet, I have all sorts of A/M for it, but I have other projects I want to get to ...
