What is a 'flow enhancer' ? :???:
I think it's something to stop acrylic paint drying quite so quickly.

The Spit is looking good, by the way, Ian.

And I can now see that I completely porked up the colours for my build of this aircraft!

You can't really be blamed for following the kit instructions.
Yours still looks very smart. I am not convinced that I have the correct colours on mine but its too late now.

Finally got round to some work on the Spitfire. I thinned out the paint as suggested and it gives a much smoother finish.

Image

As you can see I have also given it a coat of Humbrol 49 green.

Image

It's had another coat since this image was taken and looks ok. I will let it dry overnight then mask off ready for the lower blue coat. The paint for which I have left at work. Doh!!! :drool2:

So I will get the U\C attached and try to find a replacement propeller hub.

Making slow progress on this one but I removed the masking and applied the first coat of klear. There are a few spots to touch up but not too bad. :)

Image
I think I have boobed on the brown colour but it's too late now. Hopefully it will tone down once weathered a bit & has a matt coat.

The underside is looking very blue. I tried Vallejo paint on the underside for the first time. I like the way it flows but the colour is a little rich for me. Again it may tone down with weathering.

I hope to start applying the kit decals tomorrow but will have to make the squadron code letters as those supplied are the wrong colour & size. Way to go Airfix research department.

I will make it no fear. :-D

As promised here are a couple of rushed shots of the decals where I left it last night.

Image

The roundals & stencils are from the kit, letters from the spares box. I just need to either make or paint on the 'U' of the squadron code.

Image

Once that is done, on with the prop, exhausts, radio mast etc. before a bit of dirt and finally a dull coat. Should get it done before I am off to sunny Telford for the weekend.
Hope to see some of you there.

very sharp. I like the look with the white tail. I've seen the scheme with P-40's and P-38's and like it a lot

Disaster. This one just nearly hit the wall.

The canopy fogged big style, don't know why as I did everything as normal.

Image

I tried Montex masks rather than tamiya tape but that should not make any difference.

I am stepping away from the model whilst I ponder the situation. Should I try to fit a replacement canopy (without damaging the paint work!) or just bit the bullet and paint the glazing black?

I completely understand the desire to toss this one against the wall (being a Spitfire and all :ha: ) but you've already put a lot of effort into it and it would be a shame. It wouldn't be difficult or even that expensive to get a replacement vac canopy. I say put it aside for now and order a new canopy.

Look at me trying to save a Spitfire...  :ha: :ha:

I always new you would in the end. :-D

I have decided to paint it black for now & see how it looks. I can pick up a new canopy at SMW tomorrow.
