Re: Molly-new's Boomerang
I will be building the Airfix CA-13 Boomerang:
Probably do it OOB, using the sceme for No. 4 Squadron, RAAF based in New Guinea in 1943.
Thats the 2 part camo scheme on the right.

Re: Molly-new's Boomerang
Finally made a start on this, painted the pilot and attached him to his seat:
Painted the basic cockpit, but I am not going overboard on the interior as not much is visible once the canopy is on.
A few issues have become apparant though:
I aim to modify the engine cowling and air intake to make them more prominent. This will also help overcome the poor fit issue.
This is how it should look:

Re: Molly-new's Boomerang
Started to put the old bird together and sort out the problems, starting with the poor fit on the engine cowling:
and dealing with the slot for the stand:
This has now been filled ready for sanding.
I also decided to make some lights from clear sprue. First attempt and I think it looks OK.
Tonight I have been working on the engine cowling flaring, should have some piccies later.

Re: Molly-new's Boomerang
Hi Chip. Nice approach to fixing the engine fit problem.
As for the slot in the belly, you can glue in a piece of flat plastic on the inside, and then plug the rest of the gap with some epoxy putty. It works like a charm for big jobs like this.

Re: Molly-new's Boomerang
This goes together quite quickly with only a minimum of filler needed on the wingroots:
I am quite pleased with how the engine cowling flaring has come out:
Once it has got a coat of primer on I can make any adjustments prior to spraying.

Re: Molly-new's Boomerang
Very nice work, Chip. I have taken your lead on some of the fixes but have decided to use the Airfix stand.

Annoyingly mine did not include the stand. Airfix must have decided to leave it out when they re-boxed it.jssel wrote: have decided to use the Airfix stand.
Why Oh Why do kit manufacturers do things like this?
Surely there's no need to put the numbers on such a delicate item?

Re: Molly-new's Boomerang
You can get a nice twin pack of Italeri stands that would suit nicely.

Re: Molly-new's Boomerang
I like to use Revell Aqua Color as they go on easy with the hairy stick, covering well once thinned down with water, and now I have got the hang of it they spray well from an airbrush.
The bottom colour is Light Blue 36149.
