OK, I will check nearer the start date to see if it is objected to. :sad:

If it is decided that support forces do not count then I doubt if I will buy anything else, as I did that for the Ground Forces in North Africa GB and it got cancelled. :sad: :sad:

There was a 6 day poll run (which I missed) that didn't get enough feedback so it got sacked. http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=1863;

Hopefully someone will have a go at re-starting it after SMW 2011, as everyone seems geared towards Telford at the moment.

Help needed

I want to join the GB and have both the Airfix Dauntless & Wildcat kits in my stash (all that’s left out of a US verse Japan 10 a/c gift set that the grandchildren have been ploughing through).

My problem is the three subjects I know absolutely nothing about are US, Japanese & German a/c.

What would be a suitable colour scheme for the Dauntless or Wildcat for this GB? I have done a quick google for images of Pearl Harbour a/c and surprisingly drawn a blank.

Any help would be appreciated so I can join the GB.

Morning Splash. Here is a little of what I found.

At the time of Pearl Harbor, only USS Enterprise had a fully-equipped Wildcat squadron, VF-6 with F4F-3As. The USS Enterprise was then transferring a detachment of VMF-211... equipped with F4F-3s, to Wake. F4F-3s of VMF-211 were at the Ewa Marine Air Corps Station on Oahu; nine of these were damaged or destroyed during the Japanese attack.

Hope this is a lead for you.

thanks for the information on the wildcat, unfortunately when I checked the plastic bags, I found a Hellcat which is of no use, so it will have to be the Enterprise Dauntless.

So any information on colour and markings would be appreciated.

OK. Well, I found this interesting.

The SBD-2 had just entered carrier service in December 1941. On 7 December eighteen SBD-2s from the USS Enterprise (VS-6) were caught up in the attack on Pearl Harbor having been dispatched ahead of the carrier. Enterprise was just returning from dispatching, secretly, a Marine Squadron to the SWPA. Seven of the eighteen were lost, but did claim two Japanese aircraft destroyed, the type’s first victories of the war.

Post attack briefing report listing a few serials:

http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/shi ... Pearl.html;

Couple of profiles here. Overall light grey Marine at Ewa and a Navy mid-blue and white scheme of VS-6

Hope this helps you out Splash, or anyone else interested is doing a SBD-2.

As I've just received the Zero vs. P-40 Dogfight Double and need to build it fairly soon, oob, I'm thinking that here might be a reasonable place to post.

CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE CHANGED:

I wasn't going to join in this GB due to a crowd of semi-built models around my workbench. However, due to my airbrush problems making a round of paintstripping necessary and the lovely Mrs Dazzled winning the Airfix Magazine draw at Telford today that allowed me to pick this up :

free, gratis and for nothing I appear to have no more excuses. Therefore I'm in.

THREE WEEKS OR SO :shock:

I think I can pull that off.

Did Wheelers Field have a concrete runway or was it just a field?
