Pearl Harbor Sign-up and Chat
Re: Pearl Harbor Sign-up and Chat
I am in with either the Fujimi 1/50 Val, Nichimo Kate or Tamiya A6M2 Zeke. Closing in on a decision.

I KNOW NOW!...Brews wrote:What you do, in this case, is post pics of your Zero in the "Previous Builds" thread and move on with your next one. As for the timing, you should be vigilant. When GB Calendar updates are announced, read them. This GB has been on the calendar for some time.Dazzled wrote:Some timing!
I'm already a good way through a Fujimi 1/48th Zero to be completed as a Pearl Harbour raider from the Shokaku.
I'm still working out where all the forum bits are but I'm OK now and planning for future GBs at the moment.
I'll post pics of the Zero (when it's completed) but I have too much on the bench at the moment to participate in the Pearl Harbour GB (Also I have nothing relevant in the stash ). I also have completed models of a "Jake" on a catapult from the cruiser Atago and a 1/450th model of the Akagi at the moment of launching the Pearl Harbour attack. These will be posted soon.
What I am looking forward to in the coming year are the four or more and early jets GBs.
I have the very things

OK, I will check nearer the start date to see if it is objected to.Dirkpitt289 wrote:Back when I was looking for something for this GB I saw this as a possibility but was shot down my the then founder as this was NOT flown during the actual attack on Perl Harbor. Like I said in my opening post for this seeing as it was not my brainchild I'm open to just about anything as long as no one else has any objections.
If it is decided that support forces do not count then I doubt if I will buy anything else, as I did that for the Ground Forces in North Africa GB and it got cancelled.jRatz wrote: I think that if the definition is "participated in the Pearl Harbor attack" we're fine, as that would include support forces ....

There was a 6 day poll run (which I missed) that didn't get enough feedback so it got sacked. http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=1863;Brews wrote:I don't remember the North Africa GB getting cancelled ... :(
Hopefully someone will have a go at re-starting it after SMW 2011, as everyone seems geared towards Telford at the moment.

Re: Pearl Harbor Sign-up and Chat
Help needed
I want to join the GB and have both the Airfix Dauntless & Wildcat kits in my stash (all that’s left out of a US verse Japan 10 a/c gift set that the grandchildren have been ploughing through).
My problem is the three subjects I know absolutely nothing about are US, Japanese & German a/c.
What would be a suitable colour scheme for the Dauntless or Wildcat for this GB? I have done a quick google for images of Pearl Harbour a/c and surprisingly drawn a blank.
Any help would be appreciated so I can join the GB.
Regards

Morning Splash. Here is a little of what I found.
At the time of Pearl Harbor, only USS Enterprise had a fully-equipped Wildcat squadron, VF-6 with F4F-3As. The USS Enterprise was then transferring a detachment of VMF-211... equipped with F4F-3s, to Wake. F4F-3s of VMF-211 were at the Ewa Marine Air Corps Station on Oahu; nine of these were damaged or destroyed during the Japanese attack.

Hope this is a lead for you.

Re: Pearl Harbor Sign-up and Chat
thanks for the information on the wildcat, unfortunately when I checked the plastic bags, I found a Hellcat which is of no use, so it will have to be the Enterprise Dauntless.
So any information on colour and markings would be appreciated.

OK. Well, I found this interesting.
The SBD-2 had just entered carrier service in December 1941. On 7 December eighteen SBD-2s from the USS Enterprise (VS-6) were caught up in the attack on Pearl Harbor having been dispatched ahead of the carrier. Enterprise was just returning from dispatching, secretly, a Marine Squadron to the SWPA. Seven of the eighteen were lost, but did claim two Japanese aircraft destroyed, the type’s first victories of the war.

Couple of profiles here. Overall light grey Marine at Ewa and a Navy mid-blue and white scheme of VS-6

Hope this helps you out Splash, or anyone else interested is doing a SBD-2.

As I've just received the Zero vs. P-40 Dogfight Double and need to build it fairly soon, oob, I'm thinking that here might be a reasonable place to post.

Re: Pearl Harbor Sign-up and Chat
CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE CHANGED:
I wasn't going to join in this GB due to a crowd of semi-built models around my workbench. However, due to my airbrush problems making a round of paintstripping necessary and the lovely Mrs Dazzled winning the Airfix Magazine draw at Telford today that allowed me to pick this up :
free, gratis and for nothing I appear to have no more excuses. Therefore I'm in.
THREE WEEKS OR SO
I think I can pull that off.
