That is the great thing about the Airfix kit. It was another $6.30. I didn't feel bad at all buying another, and it is still cheaper than the Trumpy buying two of them.

I beg to disagree. $5 gets you two vac canopies.
Well how about that. I stand corrected.

I think I'll be extra careful with the canopy on mine.

Yes, do so. I was being very careful with mine. I used a razor saw and not nippers and was cutting very gently when it happened. I was shocked.

I got my canopy of grand so I don't think it is a material flaw.

Cheers,

I just got mine off OK, although I haven't cleaned the gates up yet. I did notice, when sawing it off, that there is a great deal of flex in the sprue, it's not at all rigid. Perhaps that's what caused the shattered canopy?

Gentlemen,

Apologies for the lack of updates. A sick father in law, followed by the Thanksgiving holidays and a huge backlog at work has put a crimp in my modeling. I am afraid that I won't finish this one by the deadline, but it should be done by the end of the year.

Here are some in progress photos:
In an attempt to speed up the process, I skipped my usual priming with Mr. Surfacer 1200 and primed with the underside color, medium gray (grey).

Image

After priming, I sanded the inevitable errors and then I preshaded. I love my Badger Velocity.

Image

Image

After preshading, I went back over it with a thinned downed mist coat of the base medium gray (grey)

Image

Finally, I darkened the original color and shot along the panel lines to take away some of the preshading.

Image

The next step will be to lighten the base color and spray the interiors of selected panels.
