MPC/Airfix P-40E, a stranger in a strange land.

Post by gnomemeansgnome »

Just a little something I have been working on lately.....part of a diorama idea that's been bugging me for years.

VERY nice work. I've seen pics of a P40 in Japanese colours before and fancied doing it in kit form. You certainly turned a sows ear of a kit into the proverbial silk purse.

All the best.

Thanks so much! Yeah the kit isn't much to write home about, but I wrung what I could from it. There's more to do yet but I feel like I am nearing the finish line.

Nice work. Was your picture really taken thirty five years ago?

Ha ha ha! No, the camera has been acting strange for a couple of months now, and seems to be impervious to being reprogrammed. I think digital cameras were science fiction in 1980. Reposing those 72nd scale figures makes doing the same thing to anything larger look like a cinch.

A P-40 in Japanese livery, interesting idea. It actually looks quite good in it too.

It does, doesn't it? Apparently the Japanese got their hands on a few significant Allied types for testing and evaluation, and even used a few in combat as well. Been itching to get this dio done for a very long time. The figures are more challenging than the prep work I did on the P-40, and has already called for a change or two of plan.....

I was tempted to do a Japanese marked Hurricane a while back for the captured equipment GB but decided on other things instead. I thin another 'under new management' GB may be a good idea some time. Your P40 dio looks superb btw. Very impressive work.

Thanks very much. Yes, I also like the sound of a Group Build with that as the theme as well. Loads of possibilities. And you could do a Hurricane in hinomaru. If not I may take up that challenge.

There's a GB idea to get behind. I picked up a set of Tachikawa logos ages ago on a whim. Would be nice to use them.

I have a small number of them left too. Used a pair each on the P-40 and the A7M Reppu.
