MWP project: Supermarine Spitfire MkV-b Trumpeter 1:24

Post by aquatarkus10 »

Hi to all
this is my last MWP project ( Metal Work Panels ) based on the Trumpeter kit Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vb 1:24 scale model (already assembled) .
This model is only experimental and not historical . The squadron insignia are only illustrative and should not be considered as reference .
To achieve the metallic coating I used the ultra-thin aluminum metal tape by applying the MWP procedure
To complete the study , it took several time ( about a year) .
I completely dismantled , stripped and reconditioned an already kit assembled a long time ago and that
It would need a strong restoration.
I upgraded the model with new and interesting accessories such as flaps and lowering mechanisms implemented by MasterCasters PE and Hispano 20mm cannons produced by Air Master metal and brass just to mention some details .
Even the engine Rolls Royce Merlin was more detailed and completed in the parts missing or incorrect .
The canopy has been updated with the riveting of HGW (wet transfer )
The project helped me to experiment with new techniques and use new materials on the metal thus implementing the MWP technique that is now mature
to be used on any model of any scale and age .

Very shiny....

You need to invest in a diffused light source for your photos that will improve them.

Stunning - That's one of the better NMF I've seen and the detailing is superb - I love the Merlin.

How do you think this tape compares to something like Bare Metal Foil?

Cheers

Just curious...did you have any spots where you have to join between two pieces of the tape where there wasn't a convenient panel line..? I'm wondering if it is possible to burnish the two edges down so that there is no discernible join line..?
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

Hi Stuart
Thank you for the comment I absolutely apreciated .
The Bare Metal Foil is an excellent product that I use only for some finishes .
It 's very expensive and delicate , tears easily and thus do not think
suitable for the coating of a model while is fine as integration and support .
The metal tape ( with protection) is currently the only product cost
much lower but with superior strength that allows you to get a
results of great impact and very close to the original .

No problem.
First question : the MWP procedure involves cloning of the panels
original so that you have no way to mistake the union of the panels .
When the rewrite on the ribbon panels , you already know that they will join
perfectly because you have them copied onto matte adhesive film .
Now it depends on how the panels will be cut and placed on the model.
You can find the step by step of the MWP procedure here:http://www.adventurephotomodels.com/wor ... mkvb-1-24/
Second question : I do not know , there are several solutions to get a
result still closer to your expectations .
Thanks for your attention and for watching this work
