Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
Funny you should say that, I've just watched the opening credits (again ) on Youtube
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
I've been a fan of the old John Wayne movie Flying Tigers for years.
While a P-40 is an obvious "must have" for the collection (the film used some real P-40Es in some of the take-off and landing sequences), there's ample references made to these aircraft in the film:
Granted, it would end up being a generic all-over grey with Hinomarus on, since there are no specific aircraft or pilots mentioned in the film, but it'd be a great addition to have!

Now there's a film I haven't seen for some time and generally I like John Wayne's war films. What is the aircraft type in the picture above that is going to be used as the Japanese opposition to your P-40? I feel I should know for some reason but my knowledge of Japanese a/c is not the world's best

Neither is mine, Shaun!
According to the film, it's a "Nakajima".
The only plane I can find that fits the time frame and appearance is the Nakajima Ki-27.
A nippy little thing against lesser aircraft, it was outclassed by the P-40 once it came up against it in combat. However, the film has the Ki-27 battling the Curtiss fighter vigorously throughout.
Sadly, the planes in the film do not have any stand-out markings or characters, so I imagine it would be a generic light-grey-with-meatballs paint scheme.

The Ki-27 looks good to me as a suitable choice Daren. That will be a nice and easy scheme for you as well!

The three Top Gum kits Airfix did are quite hard to find now. The F14 had Mavarick's and Iceman's aircraft markings in. I have Jesters A4 in the stash but not the other two (yet)

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
Here's another one for you to think about, Daz: Topper's fighter (aka a Folland Gnat in grey with "The Navy" on its side in large blue(?) letters) from Hot Shots! It'd make a good companion for the F-14 and "MiG-28".
Of course, given what happened to the aircraft in question during the film, you might not want to actually assemble the kit...!
