Special Hobby 1/48 Sack AS.6

Post by skypirate »

An now for something completely different!
At last, the Sack flying saucer is complete!

This private venture actually flew in 1944!

Many innovative German aviation ideas have reappeared over the years as technology allows, but not quite this one, I don't think.

Image

The kit was a bit of a challenge with ill-fitting parts, no positive location of many parts, etc, but decals were fine. There is some reasonable resin detail in the cockpit, but some of it was sacrificed to allow anything to fit in the space available.

Image

This is quite a small aeroplane. I have photographed it alongside a 109 for scale. You may notice it has 'borrowed' a 109 canopy.

Thanks for looking.

Looks like something I'd do. Looks good and it really is small isn't it. I mean, the '109 isn't all that big to begin with. I wonder how it would have flown after being scaled up to production version size?

Apparently, it never did actually 'fly', but had an interesting history non the less.
