Airfix Sea Harrier FA/2 1/72

Post by shangos70 »

Returned from my summer holiday and finally got around to finishing the Shar2.
I replaced the nose and nozzles with Pavla ones. Fit of the kit wasn't too bad, detail a bit vague in places. I wouldn't pay the asking for the latest release.
Painted in mostly Gunze Med Sea Grey. I painted the under wing tanks in dark sea grey.

Looks great! How do the kit parts compare with the replacements you used?

HI Stupot, the kit nose looks wrong and the nozzles have a nasty seam down the middle you can't get rid of. The nose was only about £1.70 from Hannants, the nozzles also come with replacement intakes but I didn't use them and were £5+ again from Hannants.

Excellent work.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Looks great with that nose job.

Is there a more accurate FA/2 Sea Harrier kit out there?

Great-looking model. And good info.
I have the replacement intakes, but not the replacement nose, so will take another look.

Cheers,

Thanks all, you could throw a fist full of money for add - ons and upgrades for this and the Shar1. Nose, intakes, gun pods , undercarriage . The list goes on. Airfix's Sea Harrier kits are well behind in detail and finesse compared to the later GR1 and 3 kits but I think this is the only kit out there of the type.

Very nicely done, the Pavla bits do alleviate some of the worst glitches with the kit. You can still find the Xtrakit/Special Hobby FA2 available, but like the Airfix it probably raises more questions than answers, so there's still room for somebody to turn out a definitive FA2 in 1/72.
