Anigrand 1/72 HP 115 **FINISHED**
As another build draws slowly nearer to conclusion one's thoughts wonder to the next build. Something simple, straight forward. So this purchase from last year's SMW was sat on top of the resin stash and filled the brief. Yes it's resin, yes it's Anigrand but a previous fettling suggested good fit of the few parts.
It would also make a good subject for working on my NMF skills. I got at least a few tomes covering postwar UK experimentals, include Barrie Hygates volume with the plans that formed the basis of Maintrack's Project-X series of vacforms. And so I turned to these to fill in the details, like the leading edges and controls surfaces were wood/fabric and not metal like the rest of the structures and that the lower fuselage fairing is twice as wide as Anigrand have moulded it!!
OK so it going to be like every other build I start ....

Re: Anigrand 1/72 HP 115
I foresee a small large amount of filler in your future James
Best wishes

At every Yeovilton model show for the last I can't remember years, I have displayed models on a table immediately opposite a HP115. It's one of those multi-tone natural metal finishes that can be so hard to achieve. It's a great looking aircraft, so go for it.

Good luck with that, James. Do you plan fixing the lower fuselage?

Don't you know me by nowdwomby wrote:Good luck with that, James. Do you plan fixing the lower fuselage?
I had thought of widening what is there but I would have long longitudinal joins to hide under a NMF so I think of going Mike Grant on it and completely replacing the lower fuselage with a single piece of plastic card (possibly two laminations), this will also sort out the length issue as the copula is too long (and narrow at the rear).

Re: Anigrand 1/72 HP 115
Superb, they show very clearly the fabric covered areas, the leading edges are fabric covered wood; the idea being the could be replaced with different profiles, though I don't think this happened. I'll model mine before the smoke/ink nozzles were added to the root on the leading edge. Many thanks.splash wrote:Hi James try this link http://cluster8.website-staging.uk/ashd ... .uk/HP115/JamesPerrin wrote:That woul be super Splash

The sawing was followed by some sanding involved, but I did manage to avoid damaging the surface.splash wrote:That was neat surgery.

Re: Anigrand 1/72 HP 115
It being Anigrand I was expecting some small air bubbles:
no it doesn't have 3 exhausts. I contemplated filling but decided a neater repair could be made by starting from scratch and so I cut the damaged area clean off and CA glued a block resin from a pouring block in it's place.
Unfortunately it was a tad slim and a slither of plastic card formed an endplate and was sanded to match the trailing wing edge. The exhaust was drilling out and filed out, a 5mm bit being used by hand to form the final opening. Red marker helped me to see exactly where I was cutting and how near the edge I was.
All the small inlets out the the intakes were correct apart from the first row, these face backwards and were also in different positions. Styrene rod filed to shape and then cut.

Nice one James, this is something a bit different. Such good surgical and repair techniques on show!
