Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost - FINISHED
This is a commission build using the brand new Airfix Jet Provost T.3
It is being an "in flight" pose, as XR703, 3TPS , RAF Leeming, built from the new Airfix kit and clean (no weathering) As a presentation to an ex-test pilot.
It is technically a T.4 so I will be modifying it with the couple of extra air scoops atop the fuselage (if I can!) and maybe the elevators too. Otherwise it will be out-of-the-box.
Greg is sending me a set of spare decals from the CMR kit which features the correct squadron badge - Thanks Greg!
The codes will be put together from some Xtradecal "RAF codes" sheets and the rest will come from the kit decals in the standard Red, White and Grey training scheme.
If anyone has any helpful input, please feel free to chime in!
I cut off all the parts needed excluding undercarriage and cleaned them all up. There really is not much to this kit! I got the cockpit together and the seats and pilot ready for paint. As my customer wants a single occupant I used the separate seat pad for one seat and left the other off ready fr the pilot to fit into. I drilled out a little hole in the pilots ass before impaling him on a toothpick ready for painting...
This was what was left...
The cockpit parts and pilot got their base coat of Dark Grey and NATO Green...
The details were picked out and a dark wash as added as well as the instrument panel decal...
Then it was offered up to the fuselage interior, fit was perfect...

Be advised that when flying the JP solo the RHS would have a seat apron fitted to stop the harnesses flying about.
Have a look at Fritag's rather gucci JP seats here

And make sure your pilot is sitting on the left
Re: Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost
Well it would be a tad difficult to sit in the RHS when it has a seat apron fitted.

Re: Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost
Thanks everyone
Had a bit of stall on this whilst myself and my client decided on the display stand.
He couldn't find one he liked so made one and sent it to me, so I was delayed until I received it this week.
I took note of the seat apron for the unoccupied right hand seat, and scratch-built one using the link shared by XX656
I used the stand fixing points to draw on the holes i'd need to make...
Before superglueing a chunk of resin over the holes for the screws to tap into...

Excellent, this is progressing very nicely and your client is a dab hand at making model aircraft stands!

Re: Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost
Thanks Shaun.
Had a slight hiatus as been super busy at work and then struck down with the awful Norovirus for the last week, Just about starting to feel human again...
So, I got the main build done and then set about sorting the canopy out. I removed the centre seam and polished out before dipping it in Klear to restore the shine. I also masked up the front and rear sections before a dry fit to see how they fit: perfectly!
The main canopy section was masked on the outside and then inside for the canopy frame strip, which i painted a custom mix of Grey acrylic ...
Then all were fixed in place...

Great masking work and I'm glad you are on the mend. Norovirus is the work of the devil and is one of the worst infections I have ever suffered - it is supposed to "only" last 24 hours or so. Felt like 24 days!!
