Lockheed T-33 1/48 Testors

Post by Barry »

Starting on this ancient (Hawk molds 1958) kit re-issued by Testors in 1989 with very nice markings for one assigned to the 57th FIS in Keflavik, Iceland 1976. I will be finishing mine as a less colorful Training Command aircraft.

On this example, built by my daughter back in the ealy 80's, you can see numerous ejector pin dimples, but no roof to the gear bay - looking right through to the cockpit tub.

Image

I've started on the gear bay roof, cut out wells for the speed brakes, and cut away the flaps.

Image

Again, the old kit shows how the intake is presented.

Image

I replaced it with this...not that hard to do, but a lot nicer looking I think.

My friend Tony gave me a nice Verlinden set which included a cockpit tub and these really nice seats.

Filling the gaps.

Excellent work Barry, the wheel wells and intakes look miles better. Are you planning to add more plumbing and wiring in the wells?

Not much Mike...some strip styrene structure, but probably not a lot of piping.

I had a chance to buy a 1:1 scale T-33 some years ago. Mrs Dazzled said no. The aeroplane got cut up for scrap :frown:

This build was for a retired Judge who trained in T-birds in 1956.

The red on the cockpit sills is not nearly as vibrant on the model as it looks in these pictures.

And, all cased up for delivery. Sheldon was very happy with it.

And so he should have been, that is superb Barry. What did you use for the NMF?

Hi Mike...It's Alclad Polished Aluminum over Model Master Gloss Black enamel. I used a water color brush to put a thin coat of Johnson's Klear on the vertical tail and over the flap area on the wing for some minimal panel differentiation. He had said that he wanted it shiny, so I mostly left it shiny.
