Daren I got hundreds of kits here already and may not live long enough to build them all. It's crazy.

Yes, I think we are. The number of times that I've looked at the stack of unbuilt kits in my stash looking accusingly at me and then what do I do? go and buy another to add to the collection of course :ha:

I can say, hand on heart, that this past month I've bought literally NOTHING but Zeros....

Nice one Daren, that has polished up rather nicely. That looks to be some very low flying over the sea in the film clip - full-size a/c or a model?

Large-scale static model filmed against a blue screen, I imagine.

The DVD has a great making-of documentary on it (even though it's all in Japanese!), and the smaller scale models of the aircraft were around 1/24th scale. The largest (not including the non-flying mock-ups) were as big as 1/3rd!!

If I remember rightly, the effects work was done by the team behind Godzilla.

Interesting stuff. A 1/3rd scale Zero is going to be pretty big and not far off big enough to climb in and fly I would imagine!

Daz,

You appear to enjoy Zeros. If you are ever in the mood for the Spinal Tap of aviation films, check out "The Defender." Your original subject aircraft appears in the story starting at about 22:48.

Actually, the Starfix Zero turned out much better than it has any right to, given its pedigree. Yes, it's not massively accurate, but its outline is pretty close. The undercarriage is the most suspect part, but it doesn't detract massively from the finished article. The canopy is actually very clear and crisply moulded - I almost wish I'd spent some time in making up a cockpit for it!

So yeah, there it is.

Accurate or not it is a fine build
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale
