Daz's Movie Madness!
Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
Three Spits for the movie stars collection!
From left to right - Airfix Spitfire IX (A Perfect Hero), Revell Spitfire IA (Dangerous Moonlight), Matchbox Spitfire XVI (Malta Story)
While the Airfix and Matchbox Spits were already in the stash, the Revell version is actually one that came in a box of scrap bits and pieces from a guy on Facebook. The model was mostly complete, but unpainted, with no prop, canopy or undercarriage.
A quick investigation through the memory banks brought up this kit:
I remember building a number of these. The younger me thought they were fun to build, but the older me realises they weren't fantastic kits!
Anyway, once I cleaned the dirt off the model, I decided to fill in the undercarriage wells and somehow add the wheels and legs in later. The canopy is ex-Matchbox. The spinner was still attached to the fuselage, so I decided to fill in the gaps left by the broken prop blades and make it look as though it was in-flight. Early on, I decided that this particular Spit would serve as the aircraft from Dangerous Moonlight, albeit from the end of the film, where the main character is flying missions in the UK.
It's actually came out OK, considering! There was another one in the box of broken aircraft, so I might do it as another film aircraft. (There was actually six virtually complete Spitfires and three Bf109s, plus bits for two others in the box - so not bad for £15!)

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
So, while there's not much progress to be had yet with The Ruptured Duck, the Spitfire and Camel builds are nearing completion....
The colour scheme on the PR Spit was almost as big a headache as that of the fighter versions seen in the film - I couldn't decide whether it was a light grey, or a slightly darker blue-grey (closed to that of real photo-recce aircraft). I had to watch the film again while I was painting it to have a fair idea. Who says guys can't multi-task?!
Speaking of Malta Story, though, I noticed a couple of shots of a Vokes filter-equipped Spitfire V which appears in the film. I have one of those in the stash, so wondering if it would be appropriate for the collection....?

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
Good progress on this pair, Daren. The Camel is sometimes referred to as being the Spitfire of WWI so arguably fits in with your love of Mitchell's finest rather well! The Volkes filter doesn't do the Spit any favours in the looks department but IIRC aircraft so equipped did serve in Malta as well as the desert theatre so I think it would be appropriate to add one to your movie collection
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Thanks, Shaun.
It's tempting to add the Spit V to the collection. I'll need to look at the film more closely!

The Spitfire is done!
I still enjoy doing these old Matchbox Spitfires! Decals were all from the spares box. I might fit a slipper tank later on, though I can't recall seeing it in the film!

Very smart and clean; nice job!
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Actually, the photos make it look a lot cleaner than what it is!iggie wrote:Very smart and clean; nice job!
I had already painted the model before I watched the film to confirm the colours, so I had to paint over what I had originally applied. Giving the model only one coat of blue-grey gave it a slightly washed-out look, which the real aircraft in the fllm had.
