Daz's Movie Madness!
Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
I've seen the book of that at the school where I work. Thought it looked a bit silly but did that thing you shouldn't, you know, judging a book etc. Then saw it on tv with the actors in the film and it seemed a lot more appealing and a little sad.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

I might have to the Spitfire from Grandpa's Great Escape the next build - to try and settle my nerves after the Krap Kit GB!

I've been renovating these two old models - they should eventually end up hanging from the ceiling!
The Buchon is, of course, the 1/48 Academy/Hobbycraft kit from a good few years ago. I've had this one for ages, and it was in serious need of some TLC in order to get it looking presentable again! New paint, new decals, and a pilot in the cockpit. Just waiting to get some correct-style decals for it.
The Spitfire is the Revell 1/48 kit, and this one came from eBay (I think). It also needed some TLC, but was in worse shape than the Buchon - no undercarriage, broken prop, canopy missing, not to mention a rather rough paintjob. I gave it a good covering of the usual Revell Aqua-color acrylics in order to have it join the Buchon. I haven't figured out what codes it will wear, but it will certainly be another of Battle of Britain's stars.

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
Have you ever thought of doing a figure of Falcke in front of a BoB markings Buchon with the pointer and the big tactics board as in the 'Gentlemen, Adler Tag' scene?

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
The only problem is if you intend to go with a recreation of the actual scene itself. The Buchons in the background have three-blade props, while all the kits have the usual four-blade fit. Unless, of course, you want to faff about and make a three-blade fit for it.
The problem there is that a Spitfire spinner won't do it, and nor will a Hurricane!

So, my renovated Spitfire and Buchon are more or less done....
Closeup of the pilot:
The Spitfire just needs the codes repainting, serial numbers applied and a bit of weathering....

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
One type I have yet to add to the collection is a Bf108 Taifun. I've built two or three of them in the past, but never thought to add one to the film collection.
I found an old, battered example that I built many years ago, so decided to renovate it so that it could join my 633 Squadron Mosquito that I built last year.
Anyway, here it is!
The colour scheme is, sadly, only an approximation. Good quality images of the two '108s (actually Nord 1002s, going by the shape of the noses in the film) are quite hard to come by, even rarer in colour, so I went with the few black and white photos I could find. The camouflage pattern on the upper surfaces is based on a flying example. One detail I COULD confirm is that the rearmost cabin windows were over-painted with camo in order to make them look a bit more like Bf109s. The pilot is simply a repurposed Matchbox Spitfire pilot, left in his black plastic colour, as you don't see the Messerschitt pilots in the film anyway!

Next up on the desk is this....
Well, ONE of them, anyway. There were several Mustangs used in the filming of Memphis Belle back in 1989. They all wore similar schemes, with fairly minimal nose art or markings on the cowlings, so I might be able to hand-paint(!) one of them.

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
Your Bf 108's could've been used in VON Ryan's Express also
Great idea for a thread, nicely done overall

Cheers.
Yes, there were four '108s in that film - armed with ROCKETS!

Re: Daz's Movie Madness!
Great work with the Taifun, Daren - the Heller kit per chance? Von Ryan's Express was on the telly the other week although I missed it. One of those rocket armed '108's would make a great movie build subject. Not that I'm hinting or anything
