It's a tempting thought - there are a number of movie Texan schemes I want to do!

It suited the purposes of the film's mock-up studio Spitfire, like so:

Image

The film's art department created a couple of full-scale mock-ups for filming close-ups of Tyrone Power battling the beastly Hun, to the point where the aircraft seemed to be articulated on a gimbal mount (or so it looks on film, anyway).

They're not massively accurate mock-ups, being done to look sort-of-OK on film.

Is this boxing closer to the one in the film,or is the film one not close to any Spit,so you might as well use this kit?

The film aircraft only bears a passing resemblance to a Mk.I Spitfire, at best. Plus, this kit has the wheels moulded into the wings, and it should be easy enough to mount on a stand without ruining the lines of it.

In other news, the Eagles Over London Texan has advanced rapidly....

....as has the Memphis Belle Buchon.

I've also just got one each of these from KingKit:

The Mosquito is going into the "One for the Books" GB (I bet you can't guess why!) and the Spitfire will be a Mk.IX from the LWT series Piece of Cake, to go with the Buchon I built recently.

I also recently watched another wartime TV series, A Perfect Hero. Not much in the way of warbird action, save for the first episode where a trio of Spitfires get tangled in a dogfight with another Buchon. So, that's another couple for the list!

I love your thought process, I like to do the same thing, molding my builds after something I've seen in a movie, tv show or from books. I was watching the 1953 movie, Jet Pilot this week and was trying to figure out where I stored my F-86 kits....

So, we've now got two more struck off the list!

Memphis Belle Hispano HA.1112M-1L "Buchon"
Image

Eagles Over London T-6 Texan.
Image

And another one has joined the list!

Image

Despite lifting a lot of its aerial footage from the previous (and much better!) film, 633 Squadron, 1969's Mosquito Squadron makes some use of new footage, specifically showing up to four Mosquitos flying in formation on their way to bomb enemy targets. One of these aircraft was the much-lamented British Aerospace-operated Mosquito T.III RR299.

Image

RR299 was not one of those used in the previous film, but did make a number of appearances in this one, and she was still wearing the Mosquito Squadron colours years after the film was released. Of course, she crashed into the ground at Barton in 1996, with the loss of the two crew on board.

A few more shots of the Eagles Over LondonTexan:

The Texans were used in the film's Dunkirk sequences near the start of the film, where they bombed and strafed the troops trying to escape from the beach. One of them is shot down in the process by the gunners on the beach. It's one of the film's better sequences - and the less said about the Hispano Buchons in RAF markings, the better!

Aww, does that mean you're not going to make one? That's a shame. It would make a good companion/enemy for the Texan. I kinda like the idea of the pair -- an American aircraft pretending to be German and a German aircraft pretending to be British. :-D

Film-makers... Whaddaya gonna do? ;-)
