Just for Mr. Celt, I've broken one of the Hurricane kits out to make it later on....

Image

It's the Academy Hurricane Mk.IIc kit. Not built this one, but it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Not decided which film it will be from, though!

Well, the Hurricane is going to be this one:

Image

This aircraft is actually the BBMF Hurricane IIc LF363, and is seen very early on in the Battle of Britain film, taxiing in after flying a victory roll over the French refugees at the start of the film.

Quick work on the little beast!

And, appropriately, the Spitfire VB project will be the BBMF aircraft, AB910.

AB910 could be the aircraft to the left of this image. Codes and markings have yet to be decided.

Contrary to popular opinion, I do rather like the Hurricane - I watched Angels One-Five a good number of times when I was a kid, and found it rather enjoyable. I still do! That film is another of the projects to be done - I think there's at least two Hurricane schemes I can do!

I had a look in the stash earlier, and I found I have at least three Hurricanes up there, possibly four. One of them is a 1/48 scale set with a bunch of ground crew to go with it. I plan on getting at least one more for the film collection.

Oh, and if anyone knows of a reasonable 1/32 version, I might be interested....!

Well, I liked the old Revell one, but that was way back when, and it's probably obsolete by now. I have heard good things about the Fly Hurris, though some people think they're a bit pricey -- but then, you can say that about an awful lot of kits these days.

I don't know about reasonable. Trumpeter, Pacific Coast Models, and Fly Models have 1/32 Hurricanes - I think Revell also? I think only the PCM line has a Mk.I including fabric wing, otherwise they are Mk.II or similar.

Painting progress....

Image

The Hurricane needs its wings painting in the half-black/half-white scheme still.

Great work and it's good to see these two iconic British fighters being built together, Daren. I've nothing against the Hurricane either and it did sterling service during the war. I'm starting to lean back towards 1/48th for these single engine types though as I prefer the better shelf presence that the scale affords - sometimes I find types such as Spits, Hurris, 109's, etc to be a little too small in the Gentleman's Scale.

Getting there.....

Both aircraft have the "correct" six-stub exhausts fitted at the time of filming.

Decals are going on the Hurricane now, and the Spit has them on - they both just need serials and codes before getting their "make up" applied. The Spitfire will have a suitably attired pilot in the office.

The Hurricane's ID is easy to choose, but finding one for the Spit is a bit more difficult, as the aircraft wore so many!

Shaping up into a great pair of classic British fighters, Daren.
