SR71 Blackbird, 1/72, Italeri

Post by Stupot »

SR71 Blackbird

Hi everyone,

This is Italeri’s boxing of the SR-71. A nice kit to build although I needed to use some filler on the over and under fuselage joins but they turned out ok once sanded down. For the black finish I kept it simple and went with matt black from a spray can and I’m really pleased with how it looks. The decals went down well with klear and a little Humbrol decalfix. Humbrol Matt from a spray can restored the finish.

I like the look of the hi-vis markings, I think they make it stand out more. To be honest in its gloss finish during the decal stage it looked so cool it was almost a shame to put the matt coat on.

I never saw one of these for real but it must have been amazing. It sure is an awesome looking aircraft and I’m so glad I built the kit. I had to take the photo’s indoors but I did my best with them. Hope you enjoy…

The main gear wheels in this last photo don't look straight but in reality they are just fine.

Thanks for looking

That's a very neatly finished model Stu. Certainly a purposeful looking beastie. 8-)

An iconic aircraft you've done justice to 8-)

I missed this somehow, it must have crept in under my radar despite its lack of stealth  A great build Stu, very good indeed.

Very nice.

I love the SR-71, YF-12/A-12 family.

I'm glad to say I did see SR-71s fly on a number of occasions, at Farnborough and Mildenhall.

I've also sen a couple of the preserved examples.
