Fokker DXX1

Post by vacant »

This is the PM 1/72 kit of the Fokker DXX1. It was given to me in an unbuilt state, though the canopy had gone missing at some stage. I made a new one by carving a piece of balsa and moulding it in clear plastic card. I made the cockpit look busy with the usual odds and ends. The orange in the decals had turned to yellow over the years, so I masked off the black and painted the orange by hand.

Nice build of this classic Frogger Vacant and well done with the replacement canopy.

That's a great job. Very nicely done.

All the best.

Your approach to modelling is an inspiration, Vacant. No canopy? Just mould a new one. Decals wrecked? Mask and paint them instead. Looks great.

I forgot to add the elevator actuators and some bracing wires on the rear wings. There was also (sometimes) an exhaust pipe on the starboard side of the engine. These have all been added now.

Very cool!

May I ask what you use to mask decals? I've had no luck masking over decals without at least some pull up occuring.

I did the masking before putting them in water. I used the usual, i.e. Tamiya tape. Nothing lifted. They would have lifted if tried to do it after they were applied to the model.

Cracking build. Beautifully crisp paintwork.

It would be cool even without problems you had overcome, with them it is a wonder.

Good to see the Frog Fokker D21. What I like is that you opted for the light brown as some suggest that is should be more greyish. My Fokker kits will also be painted with light brown like yours.
