Marky's Little Bristol!!
Marky's Little Bristol!!
While at the Peterborough show I found one of these...
Any guesses?!
I found two of them for £2-00 each and they are Vacform. Not my favourite media but they were very cheap and I thought if I messed one up I had a spare!!. Of course, you have to supply the undercarriage legs, wheels, support struts and weapons!.

Looks like this, but I can't remember which kit. It might be Airframe.

You have it right, it is Airframe, from Canada land!. Of course I didn't think to read far enough down the instructions before gluing the wings on so I have no cut out's in the wing root! . I could drill it now but the support struts I put in the wings just happen to be exactly where the cut out's are! At least I have a second one to get it right!!.vacant wrote:Looks like this, but I can't remember which kit. It might be Airframe.

Not a fan of vacuforms either but it is good to see a WW1type being built. By the looks of things you are doing well so far. Best of luck with both of them.
Re: Marky's Little Bristol!!
Thanks chaps. I am actually enjoying the build. I've built the frame over the cockpit for the wires. Either I've built it too low or in the wrong place, or pilots were limber and flexible getting into the cockpit.

Nice find. I'm not averse to big Bristols either.

Great stuff Mark. I've yet to break my vacform duck and keep shying away from them, which is ridiculous really given that I've been building models since God was a lad!

Too true!!.TobyC wrote:Nice find. I'm not averse to big Bristols either.
I know what you mean Shaun. I've only ever attempted or built four. One is this one, one was the Welsh Models Belfast (which was a good experience, 1.5mm plastic helped), some of a Shorts 360 and the ID/Delta Models C-5 Galaxy (1/72nd!!). The Galaxy was completed although it was a slog!. I think the key (or one of them), is strips of reinforcing/support plastic along the edges of each part such as fuselage halves.ShaunW wrote:Great stuff Mark. Well tidy mun.
Re: Marky's Little Bristol!!
Looking at yours I think I have put the over cockpit frame too low!. But I'm reluctant to mess about with it now, it's quite thin plastic and a fragile little thing so....vacant wrote:Looks like this, but I can't remember which kit. It might be Airframe.

Still, I have another one so maybe I will put these lessons learned to good effect!!.
Thanks!. The undercarriage is on now, just a tail skid to add and paint and decals.celt wrote:Well tidy mun.

Don't take mine as the gospel on accuracy. Check against plans and photos rather than looking at mine.
Re: Marky's Little Bristol!!
Did you take this to ModelKraft in Milton Keynes today?, I saw one that looks a dead ringer for this one. Unless everyone paints them the same!!. I looked at it and thought 'I've definitely got the frame too low!!'.vacant wrote:Don't take mine as the gospel on accuracy. Check against plans and photos rather than looking at mine.

No, it wasn't mine. Not at Milton Keynes today.
