Spartan Executive 7W

Post by vacant »

This is an Execuform vacform 1/72 kit of the Spartan Executive. Not many were built but a few are still flying. The model is in the markings of an aircraft flown by Howard Hughes.

The first photo shows the parts on the sheet. There is also a metal prop and a clear piece for the glazed areas.

It wasn't the easiest of builds, but then it's a vacform. Windows are always a problem with these kits. I cut them out and made individual pieces from clear plastic card so they would fit flush with the fuselage. I did not use the kit piece as it would have had to go inside - the plastic is too thick for a decent fit. I bought it at the recent Cosford show for £1.95 so I'm not complaining. I think thj seller was overjoyed to get rid of it.

There were no decals with the kit so I had to make them myself. They are not as sharp as I would like, but it's all I could do. It does not stand cup to lose scrutiny. I may well do some more work on it.

Another work of art my friend. That looks beautiful.

All the best.

Well done, It is a beautiful aeroplane, I had a chance to have a close look at one at Pantanger- you have caught its essence really well.

Lovely - and rare - both full size and as a model.

Blimey. I wouldn't have known where to start with that. Well done on bringing it to life.

Wow - now I know what they mean by 'raw material'. What you started with was extremely raw! Well done making such a lovely looking job out of it.

Lovely work and a classic looking aircraft
Best wishes

An excellent job and you have caught the look of the Spartan perfectly. I saw one fly at Duxford in 2015 and you have produced a beauty.

I opted out of trying to achieve the high chrome finish. It was tempting, but I chickened out.

I think that it would have been easier to scratch build that rather than start from those bits! It would have been more expensive though.

Excellent model produced from not very much.

The Spartan is a nice looking aircraft and that is a nice looking model of it but quite how you made it from that crude vac is little short of miraculous!

Execuform don't give you much to work with do they? Excellent outcome never the less.

Pretty aircraft deserves a modern kitting. Well done with the vaguest of vacforms
