Re: Therapy Build
Dallar,
You might like to consider the 'Air Defence' grey finish, the only NMF (other than the engines etc) is the intake ring. A quick 'Google' of BAC Lightning will bring up a rather nice photo on pinterest.
Just a thought.

Re: Therapy Build
That's not a nice thing to happen to a modeller!
Good work on the Lightning, though.
Not my favourite kit, but I have one finished. It just needs a few little adjustments and a little bit of cross kitting, but Out of the Box still looks OK.
The Airfix kit has rather eclipsed it now, but it is still worth building.
Good luck with the finger examination.

So many models, so little time.

Re: Therapy Build
Since my last update, I spent some time at the bench tinkering with the landing gear. They are not difficult to assemble, but with my stump finger still thinking like its still there at times I had to step back and regroup and start over. Here they are dry fitted to the wing.
That got me inspired to go on ahead and start shooting some paint. This paint scheme is one of the two options covered by Trumpy's decal sheet. So now we have some color
I'll let this get good and cured, then hit it with some clear gloss.
Thanks for looking......

Re: Therapy Build
That's a beauty. Despite the kits inaccuracies it certainly looks like a Lightning. My Grandad used to build them and I spent a week at RAF Binbrook where the last of them were based so I hsve a soft spot for them.
All the best.

You won't get me opening up any of my cartridges to wheedle out the shot for weights,I'm far too tight for that.ShaunW wrote:Great progress, Dollar. I've never built a Trumpeter kit either and I can see that this does present the odd challenge or two! You won't see many British modellers using stuff like shotgun shells for weights or what have you as the government doesn't really like us owning anything that goes bang
I bought 'em to use in my shotguns and that's that.
Must admit Dollar it does seem to be scrubbing up ok from here.
How's the finger BTW?
You could see him thinking "Bleedin'pilots, don't know nuffin. All glammer" He's probably right.

Re: Therapy Build
Aaargh! I built this one. I could not tolerate the shape of the belly tank, and that took some fixing. The tail end has already been mentioned here. Then there's the completely wrong yellow in the decals.
Suffice to say this model has already passed out of my collection.
All the best!

Re: Therapy Build
Sorry to hear about your Finger Dollar - I hope this build is helping with the recovery - it's a great hobby for that.
Shape issues asides (and they may not matter to some) you're obviously enjoying it and it shows - great work!
Cheers

Re: Therapy Build
The fun continues. I have a couple of coats of Klear sprayed on and drying. In the mean time I shot the shock cone for the intake with a coat of Humbrol 94, and put some titanium on the exhausts. Once the gloss get good and dry it's on to decals!

Re: Therapy Build
Thank you for all the encouraging comments.
I go to have the stitches removed today!
I have read the reviews on this kit and yes the shape issues are well documented. I'm not an afficianodo on the Lightning so to be honest it looks ok to me. It is after all just a model.
Oh yeah the shotgun shell were found in my garage left there by a former owner.
The paint I used was Model Master RAF Dark Green on the upper surfaces and MM Chrome Silver on the lower. Then intake cone is Humbrol 94 Desert Yellow I think.
I'm planning to start on decals tomorrow, just not too much in the mood today with the surgeons appointment looming.

Re: Therapy Build
I've been a bit slow in following your progress on this build, Greg and didn't realise that you've put on the initial paint. Looks great from here.
